Citizen Ed Hauser, Victorious In The Battle Of Whiskey Island - "Ask Not What Your Planet Can Do For You..."

It has been a year since Northeast Ohio lost our selfless civic activist "Citizen" Ed Hauser, silencing the great voice in the community saying that "The Process is Broken".

November 14, 2009 - the one-year anniversary of Ed's death - a group of family and friends came together on the beautiful Whiskey Island Ed saved, before a late Autumn setting sun, to toast a glorious man, and mourn a most cursed and horrible year in Northeast Ohio without Ed.

What does the dawn hold for this long-suffering region, in the second year without Citizen Hauser?

Song of the Day: "Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd

In two days, November 14, it will be a year since Ed Hauser died unnecessarily, for lack of adequate public healthcare in America.

A year ago today, Ed's death could have been prevented, if he had access to better preventative healthcare, along the way... doctors visits, testing, and warning about a broken heart.

Cuyahoga County 66% White, And 66% For Issue 6...6...6... Isn't That Convenient

Submitted by Norm Roulet on November 4, 2009 - 2:21pm.

I was just observing a graphic of Issue 6 voting results, on Issue 6 sponsor site Cleveland.com, and noticed how lily-white the voting for this issue clearly was.

In 98.4% white Hunting Valley, 248 people voted for Issue 6, and 18 against... 93% for Issue 6

Where Issue 6 first festered - Mayor Bruce Akers' 89% white Pepper Pike - 83% for Issue 6.

In Issue 6 Grand Mother Rawson's 30% black Shaker Heights... 74% of voters were for Issue 6...

CLEVELAND - Volunteers are going house to house in this hard-hit city's West Side, getting out the vote for a candidate who they believe will "shake things up" and bring change to a neighborhood pockmarked with abandoned houses and torn up streets.
It is one of the most intriguing of several hot races around the country that will be decided on Tuesday.

Welcome Bill Botkin from Today's Business Products... Now, About Our Brightest Greenest Discount?!

Submitted by Norm Roulet on October 15, 2009 - 10:04pm.

Today's Business Products Internet Lounge

Welcome to REALNEO, new REAL COOP member and recent Cleveland transplant Bill Botkin. Thanks for joining our real NEO community.

Bill's REALNEO member bio reads: "I am a transplant from Columbus as of 2 years ago. My career has spanned 20 years in the copier/mfp industry and I recently made the change to the Office Supply/Furniture Industry where I discovered Sustainability. I am looking to become more involved in the Cleveland area." Bill came to the right place!

Because Bill filled out his REALNEO user profile with useful information about himself and his employer, I found reasons to learn more about Bill and spent some time visiting his employer's website - Today's Business Products - where Bill "discovered Sustainability"... and Today's Business Products seems to have a good interest in sustainability - they list many "green products".

LeBron James at get out the vote for Obama rally with Russell Simmons in Cleveland Ohio

Dear Cleveland Cavaliers,

As you well know, 100,000,000s of people look up to you as community leaders and role models - these are responsibilities you accept as sports and public figures who are intentionally "in the news", for profit.

Severe Particulate Matter 2.5 Hourly Reading in Cleveland at 8:00 AM on 09/23/09 - see current here

There is clear evidence the leadership of Northeast Ohio has failed to create an environment encouraging world-class monitoring, analysis, research, notification and controls of pollution created in our region of Ohio, and the consequences on residents and society. As a result, the people of this region have suffered significant health consequences, including early death, and impaired learning ability, crippling our schools and workforce, and society and the regional economy have suffered greatly. As much of our pollution is exported beyond our region, our failure to be world-class addressing pollution here causes harm world-wide.

Let's do a fundraiser for Brian Cummins

Submitted by dwebb on September 11, 2009 - 11:04am.

Brian Cummins, former Director of the Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation, now Councilman of the Old Brooklyn area, is running in an area new to him: Ward 14. The makeup of the new ward is so different from the Old Brooklyn neighborhood: the streets, the people, and the politics. But we can only do so much. I propose as a first step that we hold a fundraiser to purchase a map of the new ward so that he can find his way around the area  that he is running in. We can worry about the other stuff later.

chimney swifts

Submitted by dwebb on September 5, 2009 - 7:36pm.

Having read that swifts could be seen going in a chimney at dusk near the West Side Market, I took a trip over the other night. It was fun to watch their descent into the chimney of St. Emerick's from the market parking lot. Tonight, I watched from the parking lot of Unique  Thrift Store On Lorain (by Fulton) as a much larger flock chased insects then dived into the chimney of the building that used to house the Cleveland Legal Aid Society. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood. Tonight's descent into the chimney began around 8:10 PM. It lasted for 9 minutes.

War planes

Submitted by dwebb on September 2, 2009 - 5:43pm.

The planes of war, the thunderbirds, arrived in Cleveland today. They flew low over the near downtown area to announce their arrival for the Cleveland Air Show. Thousands of people will turn out and pay money and be awed by these war planes, maybe never even thinking about their sole purpose.

Once Again...

Submitted by Oengus on August 22, 2009 - 1:58pm.

They are low on capital because the housing values fell, they have to tighten their belts. The housing feeds the system, so getting the housing values back up is necessary. Considering that the abatements came with false values and an inflated markets its pretty catastrophic what happened.

So now what?

They need to get off abatements, they could be using bonds to build affordable housing.
