VIdeo of the Day For Claes: X-Men Evolution - Ascension Part 2

Submitted by Norm Roulet on March 18, 2010 - 12:49pm.

Claes and my favorite cartoons are the old X-Men Evolution series, about teenagers with toxic parents in a toxic world who are mutants and have special powers and so save humanity. It is a hopeful story, in these troubled times. This video on Hulu is the conclusion of the entire series, which Claes and I never saw before... he will be very excited I found this.

Question of the Day: Should ICEarth Be Developed In Real NEO Or Elsewhere In The World?

Submitted by Norm Roulet on March 11, 2010 - 2:03am.

It is stunning to me to realize I have sitting on my desk next to me right now the ICEarth Bigbang One - one of the world's fastest personal supercomputers - developed and assembled with true genius right here in Northeast Ohio, by a homegrown team including some of the world's best open source programmers - and, tomorrow we are launching an even faster laptop supercomputer - it appears the fastest laptop ever in the world - running all open source software and a special distro of Linux - ICEarth Linux - designed to transform information management for all citizens of the world...

...and to grow ICEarth as an enterprise, now, I may need to relocate all this from Northeast Ohio, because of our leaders' lack of understanding of and appreciation for our real NEO innovations and our contributions to the new economy.

If there is a song beautiful and powerful and haunting enough to steal, this is it. But buy it instead...

I love our home boys BTNH and this song - but are we stealing from bone by putting their content places like here, vie YouTube?

Tonight's The Night: How Real Fans May Enhance Musicians' Power In The New Economy

Submitted by Norm Roulet on March 3, 2010 - 1:06am.

No doubt one of my favorite artists ever is Neil Young - one of the greats I've never seen. So, I greatly appreciated finding relatively recent live video footage of him performing one of my favorite songs ever - "Tonight's the Night" - in Birmingham, England, sounding better than ever. I love this version, even with audio flaws and crowd noise present. Neil Young never sounded better! Unbelievable - I am going to find a way to see him before I die, now.

Thank you Claude06890 - The Ropey Old Pirate Show on YouTube - based in Birmingham, for making this experience possible, by paying to attend this Neil Young concert in England, recording it on a simple video device, and sharing it with the world... along with 6 other Neil Young video clips, now viewed a total of over 60,000 times around the world... along with the 300+ other great, original concert clips you have provided the world, from Birmingham - sharing over 2 years of your musical experiences with us here, in real NEO. I couldn't afford the airfare, so no harm done to Neil Young, for sure.

That is the power of the internet working for a musician.

NEO ER Discussion of the Day: We have a realNEO/COOP Legal Issue Members Must Address Immediately

Submitted by Norm Roulet on March 2, 2010 - 4:47pm.

It is time to revive the NEO Excellence Roundtable, now virtual.

As our first discussion of the day, what are we going to do about children on realNEO - and in real coop?

I want them here and welcome my children as members - and swear as little as possible in respect.

As per our terms of use, my children have my permission to be here. I want them here, learning from all of us - seeing our great work - adding to the intellectual property and building a good virtual existence for each of themselves - I know we are the future of IT and I want them here at our birth.

Now Would Be A Good Time For An Outside Audit of All Things Economic Development, 3rd Frontier and "Film" in Ohio

Submitted by Norm Roulet on March 2, 2010 - 3:45pm.

What are the results of the $billions in public money spent in Ohio on Economic Development, 3rd Frontier and "Film" in the past decade? Now is the time for an OUTSIDE audit, before our outbound leaders spend more of our money on the wrong things, while asking citizens for more money for the friends of current leadership to transfer to their new chosen-ones.

Do you have a chosen one?

To Save People The Bother of Attacking Me

Submitted by Norm Roulet on February 28, 2010 - 9:12pm.

I'll be brief.

I co-founded realNEO in 2004 because Northeast Ohio needs realNEO - the world needs realNEO. It is entirely different from any other "social network" or content management system on Earth, building upon the ICEarth co-op conceptual framework.

I developed the ICEarth (Internet/Information Community Earth) conceptual framework in global collaboration, in the late 1990's, and founded ICEarth LLC, in 2002, to build the co-op data warehousing and serving platform for the ICEarth conceptual framework.

We have built specialised hardware for ICEarth, running specialised open source software, all developed to unique specifications. Initial testing of the hardware and software configurations exceeds expectations.

Question of the Day: Do you know "The WebLady"?

Submitted by Norm Roulet on February 22, 2010 - 1:11pm.

I am not in any way near the intellectual status as you and your members of realNEO, but I appreciate the assistance.  When I went into the 2nd grade at Chesterfield Elementary school, the teachers reported to my Mom that my attention span was very short and that I fidgeted a lot which disturbed the class.  I always did my work really fast and correct and then when left idle, that's when the fidgeting would start.  So they put me in an Enrichment Program which was similar to the Major Work program and that's how I met Henry - I was transferred to Parkwood Elementary where the

I've Identified Some Astounding Information Technology Talents in real NEO who have been Harmed by our Leadership

Submitted by Norm Roulet on February 22, 2010 - 7:37am.

I've Identified Some Astounding Information Technology Talent in real NEO that has been harmed by our regional leadership, and I'm trying to find a nice way to deal with that. Each of these people have risen to positions of demonstrated excellence in their fields - have innovated our regional information technology landscape and had global impact - and each of them have been directly violated by leadership in our community - IT leadership and community development leadership. They have each done the right things - each taken the right steps - and each been blocked along the way. And each are "minority". How do I now give them the proper status they deserve in the community, where they have not been welcome or valued?

George Polk Award for Videography - Neda Agha Soltan Shot in Iran

Submitted by Norm Roulet on February 21, 2010 - 12:11am.

I suggest realNEO members consider the developments surfaced in the Guardian article highlighted below. One of the world's top Journalism prizes - The George Polk Award - was awarded to an anonymous bystander who captured a death in Iran on a cell phone and uploaded it to the Internet. The 40 second video is the most disturbing I have ever seen, by a long shot, and I do not embed it here, nor include even a still frame, nor do I recommend anyone viewing it - if you do you will see a person die, close-up, in a very bloody and graphic way.

Why I post about this on realNEO is that, as the Guardian writes, the "New 'videography' category reflects rising professional use of user-created content". Further: "This award celebrates the fact that, in today's world, a brave bystander with a cellphone camera can use video-sharing and social networking sites to deliver news," said the New York Times' John Darnton, the curator of the Polk Awards.

My world has been quieter, lately, and then I realized... less spam on REALNEO

Submitted by Norm Roulet on February 18, 2010 - 2:17pm.

Props to Jeff Shuler, realNEO's tech administrator. He has been implementing an anti-spam strategy that seems to be working... meaning admins don't have to block a dozen spammers and delete their lame links, each day....! Thank you Jeff S!

If you are a real realNEO user and you have any trouble with accessing or posting to the site, it is not because an admin hates you - there is software now analyzing all the content posted to the site and running tests to rate how likely it is that the content is spam, and Jeff is adjusting settings to try and block out the spam, without impacting real users. The system must learn - a type of "artificial intelligence" - and it is learning - and it seems to be working. IF YOU ARE BLOCKED FOR ANY REASON AND SHOULD NOT BE BLOCKED, GO TO THE CONTACT LINK IN THE MENU BAR ABOVE AND LET US KNOW!

Time To Start Organizing realNEO for Software Freedom Day 2010 - IT's the Year Of The Penguin real NEO

Software Freedom Day in Toronto 2006

I attended an excellent Software Freedom Day event in Toronto in 2006, which I introduced on REALNEO here, and covered on REALNEO here - I actually needed a copy of Ubuntu that day, so it came in very handy.

I'd like to see Northeast Ohio celebrate Software Freedom Day 2010 in a BIG WAY - Saturday, September 18 - and follow the model I saw in use in Toronto, which included active, friendly engagement on a busy street, with workshops and light training/Q&A offered inside a receptive place. Of course, the Linux Penguin was out-front to draw attention to the event... we definitely need a penguin.

I'm Proud My Wife Has Been A Great Role Model To 10,000+ People Considering Childbirth

Submitted by Norm Roulet on February 14, 2010 - 10:48am.

It has been exciting to watch, over the past week, as this beautiful video clip of my beautiful wife Evelyn giving birth to our beautiful daughter Clara has been viewed by nearly 6,000 people on YouTube - a companion video clip of my wife in hypno-birth, water-birth labor has received nearly as much global attention... in a week. In a week, those two clips attracted around 10,000 unique viewers... about as many unique viewers as come to our REALNEO community, in a week. The value of sharing these videos on YouTube is obvious - that is a good distribution channel to teach people about childbirth. So is REALNEO.
