Another CSU smart idea

CSU Installs Prototype Wind Tower
CSU's Wind Tower

On May 12, 2009, Cleveland State University hoisted its first wind tower amplification system to the rooftop of its Plant Services Building located at the corner of Chester Ave. and E. 24th Street. The system, designed by Dr. Majid Rashidi of CSU’s Fenn College of Engineering, is a wind deflecting structure with small-scale turbines that can generate power at low wind speeds.

Prominently displayed, the 25 foot in diameter cylinder - adorned with the Cleveland State University logo - sits on a 30-foot tall base. Four turbines, six feet in diameter, will soon be anchored to two arms that can rotate as the wind direction changes. A standalone turbine will also be erected and used as a control to measure the difference in power capacity of the traditional turbine versus Dr. Rashidi’s system.

The patented wind amplification turbine system, developed as a cost-effective alternative to traditional power sources, is available for commercial use and plans are currently underway for additional systems to be installed in downtown Cleveland and rural areas of Northeast Ohio.

Made possible by a generous contribution from Betty L. Gordon and grants from the State of Ohio and the U.S. Department of Energy, the wind tower amplification system is a physical manifestation of Fenn College’s cutting-edge research efforts involving alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, fuel cells and nuclear.

Plain Dealer stories

Thanks Dbra for this post--PD mentioned this in the Cheers section today and also noted that Pearl Rd. Auto Parts installed a wind turbine.  The story notes interesting financing of an energy start-up with Civic Innovation award going to Stefanie Penn Spear of Earthwatch.

We will have to see where this goes.  It seems all too often good intentions get misdirected here in NEO and I seriously have my doubts on anything labeled "green."  I will have to see it to believe it.

I hope that this is one Civic Innovation award that actually amounts to something with tangible results.  I do have to say that I love the folks at Pearl Rd  Auto( Old Brooklyn plug) as they have kept my "non-green" auto cobbled together!

i know, i know...

i just get to see it from my office window every day and it makes me really happy.

also - i mentioned the Kaplan wind turbine in my earlier blog about roach coaches... you'll have to read it to get the connection ;)

BERNOULLI'S WATER TANK - DOING MARK CIRONI ONE BETTER

Not to be deflating, however, I have a less ebullient outlook on Dr. Rashidi's work which I have written about on Realneo here and here and in comments under Norm’s post here and here.

This 1.5 million dollar tax payer funded water tank Bernoulli Effect ploy is an embarrassment to Ohio when Bowling Green installed four 1.8 mega watt Vestas turbines in 2003- 2004.    The Bill Mason, Steve Dever, Richard Stuebi Wind on the Lake scam (and this silly water tower gimmick) are stall tactics keeping wind energy out of the grid in Ohio -  which tactics the Ohio Coal Lobby (supplying 89.9% of Ohio's electricity), if not entirely responsible for, must love.

That is indeed a smart

That is indeed a smart idea. When it comes to weather control, wouldn't it be best to came up an idea on how we can have an accurate weather  forecast. True weather control might actually be impossible, but it's worth looking into.  The recent California fires, for instance.  Santa Barbara has been torched, and there were floods in the Midwest, earlier this year.  Think of all the other weather disasters that have happened – hurricanes in the Caribbean and Gulf Coast, tsunamis, other wild fires touched off by lightning strikes, etc.  Weather is lethal, and Mother Earth just might have it out for us.  It could be worth some personal loans to look into weather control. The fact that we want to have the accurate forecast, is the fact that we no longer want to suffer from any fortuitous even cause by the unfavorable weather condition.

Vinentk is money store spam

So here is an example, with the link to money store still live, of spam.

Anyone out there disagree?  Shoud Vinentk be blocked?  Or do readers want more of this?

How is Sustaino's HOme Shopping BBQ $4.95 link to her Sustaino blog different than this?

now THIS is spam

Personal Loans to address climate change? I doubt it. I would suggest that VincentK is doing what we call spamming and I further suggest that his feelings will not be hurt if we block him from the site. In fact, you can delete this comment and mine that follows it. No problem.

Check the IP block that user

Check the IP block that user used to sign up with, then check to see who else uses that same service provider.

Then check the related activity (other users) around the time that user name was created.

I see no value

in spam... except as a joke.

delete it. block the ip address.

What about the associated

What about the associated IP? Was it associated with any other user names at the time the account was created?

Was it shared with a common server of another user on the site at the time?

IP are often dynamic they cannot be blocked effectively. But they can be obviously associated with a specific service provider and even a specific server.

It could be a user doing it, to be cute if annoying is cute.

I think a lot of the crap Guy links to, sorry guy, comes with flies. Some of the sites are incorrigible and they can see you when you link to them and create cross traffic. They use the data to harvest and farm, simply put.

It aint me alway IM oengus and always out of server in brecksville it used to be sbcglobal.net they may have changed, with all the mergers and all.

If you change your user name make sure you change your IP and if you do not have another service provider a modestly trained tech can see it is you, even if the IP is different.  You can see who is local and who is not.  This site is not that active.
