EDITORIAL POLICY/ADMINISTRATORS? Norm Roulet founded a very necessary and significant global and regional network. The membership is growing and this site, unlike other blog networks, offers the opportunity to share photos, thoughts, and dialogue with little to no interference and gatekeeping. However, the lack of gatekeeping and lack of standardized site organization can also be a detriment. I have noticed that the policy now does allow for selective editting by the administrators. Perhaps, in the interest of transparency--site administrators should be identified.
FUNDING/ADVERTISING? There is also the thorny aspect of funding the site. It has been a pass the hat operation, since REI (?) pulled the plug on the original concept. Advertising is a fact of life. This site, like all Internet sites, has a hard time distinguishing good content from advertising from SPAM. Is there some way to put our traffic to work for us to generate revenue--without selling out?
Personally, I think we need to define the three areas outlined above. Any other major issues?
