Did anyone go to hear the Lame Duck Democrats speak in Cleveland - did they apologize for the harm their party causes Cleveland?

I expect an apology - and I expect never to see any of these lame ducks running for office in America again.

That includes President Obama and Vice President Biden.

Does the Democratic Party have plans to get its shit together, be real, and run better candidates for better leadership in 2012... locally and nationwide?

Here is the legacy Obama squandered by selling his people (all Americans) down his polluted, warmongering river, after the disastrous Bush era... "Think of the growth I expect like when an economy is freed from a dictatorship and people are allowed to be free and thrive - markets open up - that is America, now that Bush has been replaced by democracy."

Unfortunately, Obama did not make America more democratic - he has made the nation more totalitarian - he has turned the world further against America, and he is making matters worse for the nation and the world going forward. Just watch China - Japan - Isreal - Afghanistan...

Despite Obama, there has been global growth and recovery since Bush left office - thank time and distance for that... but America is in worse shape than ever in modern history.

Lame Democrat. Lame President. Lame man.

Lame Duck.

Economic forecast through 2008... 2010... 2016

Submitted by Norm Roulet on January 14, 2007 - 9:33pm.

Three articles in the Sunday, January 14, 2007, Cleveland Plain Dealer really caught my attention. 1. "Power shifts, and a fast-track bill is derailed"; 2. "Gloomy forecast" and 3. "Lost confidence in Bush? So has he"  - especially the last one, where Elizabeth Auster writes, about President Bush, that "he now seems shaken by the prospect that his vision of a free and stable Iraq may be fading along with his power to achieve much else." Because of this, despite "Gloomy forecast", I expect most important aspects of the Cleveland, Northeast Ohio, Ohio, US and global economy to improve dramatically over the next 2, 4 and 10 years. In fact, I can't think of an area where there won't be significant improvements. Think of the growth I expect like when an economy is freed from a dictatorship and people are allowed to be free and thrive - markets open up - that is America, now that Bush has been replaced by democracy.

We will see global transformation enabled by improvement in overall global relations, improvement in US relations with other nations, better allocation and distribution of global talent and strategic corporate relations, and rapid expansion of technological innovation world-wide, all suddenly released from the strangle-holds George Bush's international and economic policy have had on US economic growth, and global progress, for the past six years.

All the people of America live in a free and Democratic nation once more, and can get back to inventing, and creating, and innovating science and the economy. Where I see the biggest gap to be filled is encouraging talented people and companies in other parts of the world to move to America once again - a rapid reversal of immigration policy since 09/11. We need to attract and retain a growing proportion of outside talent and wealth in a growing and evolving global economy.

At the national level, we will see Democratic leadership shifting funding away from war and a few terror-related industries and toward education, technology, health-care and science. I would expect this to happen in ways respectful of global needs, open standards and best practices - more of an open source approach to solving such problems as AIDS, malaria, contaminated water, poverty and starvation.

I expect real globalization to allow society to address the high cost and inefficiency of healthcare through innovation, providing universal coverage worldwide. It is also only through such global, open standards that the world will address global warming and other environmental issues and long term energy, resource and water crises ahead. And, of course, root causes of acts of war and terror.

In the process, we will heal the wounds caused worldwide by American global policy over the past six years, and we can begin the dialog on how the world will behave in the future. The next US President will be expected to cooperate with the rest of the world leaders in dealing with the threat of nuclear war.

At the state level, the new Governor, Ted Strickland, is proving to be outspoken and showing wisdom, so far. That Strickland is pro-city and pro-technology is to the benefit of Northeast Ohio. It should also be to our benefit that Lee Fisher has connections with this area, as he is Lieutenant Governor and Ohio Development Director.

As our economy grows, in openness and scale, there is an especially compelling potential for Cleveland to surface as one of the world's great cities. The fact is Cleveland is designed to be twice its current population - it is more than half-empty. And the cost of real estate is low as a result of Cleveland being a "shrinking" industrial city. But the new economy for Northeast Ohio and leading centers of America and the world is not industrial but rather knowledge, so as we look to redevelop our economy we need to take an abundance approach. Our greatest assets are our 1,000,000 person-scale assets and infrastructure and now acres of cheap inner city land and 1,000,000s of square feet of underdeveloped and abandoned storefronts and offices and our 100,000 undervalued inner city homes and apartments - this entire city can be bought cheap. And we are on a Great Lake, so we always have fresh water, so are always lush. That may also prove a major source of wind power. We are a great 1,000,000 person city looking for 500,000 more great people!

If we recognize the global economy is growing and people will increasingly need new, better places to live, Cleveland can rebuild itself as a model city. It will happen - Cleveland will have 700,000+ people again, within 10 years, and thrive. Over the next 2 years, we really need to work through a master plan for how this transformation will occur. This should include a global planning competition, exploring what Cleveland would look like if it was a major global city again, with $ billions from around the world being spent here to build that visionary city, and then make that happen over the next 10 years.

This needs to go to Obama!

I just received this from one of the dozens of pro-Obama mailing lists I am on (having been a blogger for Obama)... Obama needs to read this, and find a suitable replacement for 2012... 2010 is his last hurrah... it is over for him and all democratic leaders of Northeast Ohio - they fucked up America and our HOME TOWN:

[NortheastOhioforObama] VOTE DEMOCRATIC! WE AND OUR DEMOCRACY DEPEND ON IT!

This is for those who are disappointed, disillusioned, or angry about something(s) that the Democrats did or didn't do in the last year and a half.  In other words, it's addressed to everyone.

President Obama has a solid record of achievement, but not one of us got everything that we hoped for or expected.

Hispanics, Latinos, African Americans, native Americans, and other minorities:  You must not have your votes suppressed by those encouraging you to skip voting this year -- as some protest or because of apathy.

Those with interests such as increasing jobs faster, stopping foreclosures, protecting the environment, stopping climate change, getting single payer healthcare, reforming immigration, getting equal rights for the gay community -- all of us want more than could be achieved in the face of Republican partisan politics and NO votes designed to make President Obama become a one-term president.  Repeatedly Republicans kept us from getting legislation or more adequate legislation that would have helped our economy recover from crisis faster and would have helped the struggling middle class.

Given that many of us are disappointed or angry, this is specifically addressed
To those among us who are planning not to vote in the mid-term elections tomorrow;
To those who will vote but will vote Republican in the vain hope they will do better or to punish Democrats;
To those who will throw their vote away as a protest by voting for candidates who have no chance of winning.

Republicans have distracted and disrupted and obstructed all efforts for reform and change for one and a half years.  How will putting them in power again or letting them slip into power again accomplish anything that we want in the way of reform or change?

My message is this: not voting, or voting Republican, or voting but wasting your vote WILL NOT WORK!
It will be very counterproductive.  It will be shooting yourself in the foot.

Here is an excellent article making exactly that point "The 'Teach-the-Dems-a-Lesson' Myth" by Robert Perry.   http://www.commondreams.org/view/2010/10/15-7

If my e-mail inbox is any indication, many American progressives plan to use the Nov. 2 election as an opportunity to “teach the Democrats a lesson” by either not voting or casting ballots for third parties, even if this contributes to the expected Republican (and Tea Party) landslide.

The thinking seems to be that the loss of the congressional majorities will punish the Democrats for accepting half-measures and compromises on issues from health care and financial reform to job stimulus and war. The Left’s hope apparently is that the chastened Democrats will then shift toward more progressive positions and be more assertive.

However, modern American political history tells us that this strategy never works. After the four key elections in which many progressives abandoned the governing Democrats – in 1968, 1980, 1994 and 2000 – not only did Republicans take U.S. politics further to the right, but the surviving Democrats tacked more to the center and grew more timid.

All four elections also were marred by GOP dirty tricks that drew little or no reaction from either the governing Democrats or the progressives, emboldening the slash-and-burn Republicans to operate in an ever more audacious style.

Tragically, too, the Left’s sideline-sitting contributed to the unnecessary deaths of millions of people in wars from Vietnam and Central America to Iraq and Afghanistan. Arguably even worse, U.S. inaction on global warming – a neglect surely to be continued if Republicans and Tea Partiers are victorious in Election 2010 – may doom the future of a livable planet.

In other words, the “teach-the-Dems-a-lesson” strategy not only doesn't work, it’s extremely dangerous.

Further, I hope that you noticed that the United States Constitution has been under attack by Tea Partiers and Republican members of Congress who want to repeal or change parts of it such as the Fourteenth Amendment to suit their political agendas.

Further I know that you noticed that the United States Constitution was stretched beyond recognition by the activist US Supreme Court in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.  The very old doctrine that corporations are people under the Constitution was extended so that corporations now have First Amendment free speech rights to flood our nation with billions of dollars for ads and election campaigns, usually without revealing the source of those funds.  They take the money, allegedly even from foreign sources, and buy elections for candidates of their choice.  For instance, there is the great danger that well-respected Senator Russ Feingold's seat will be bought right out from under him tomorrow.

Under the Republicans, for the last decade and longer, our Democracy was changed:
With their deregulation of Wall Street and other financial interests,
With their tax cuts for the very wealthy and their transferring the the fiscal burden to the middle class, and
After years of Republicans in Congress accepting enormous "campaign funds" from Corporations,
After Republican strategy brought about partisan-enforced obstruction and NO votes,

OUR DEMOCRACY HAS BEEEN FUNDAMENTALLY ALTERED!
We are now a plutocracy -- a government by the very wealthy for the very wealthy.

Here is Paul Krugman: "Divided We Fail" --  How bad will it be if Republicans win control of the House next week? Very, very bad.

We had all better vote for Democratic candidates tomorrow.  We had better get out all the voters we can!

Swallow any anger or disappointment and SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY tomorrow by voting for Democratic candidates, even if you do it holding your nose.  SAVE WHAT IS LEFT OF OUR DEMOCRACY until it can be rescued by Democrats in the administration and in Congress next year and the next.

YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE ALL THIS!

VOTE FOR DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES TOMORROW!

WE AND OUR DEMOCRACY DEPEND ON IT!

no, Norm

I did not waste my time.  Too late to hear apologies.

At least they got 9,000 paid democrats to attend

At least they got 9,000 paid democrats to attend... and the only people I see pimping any democratic candidates right now are definitely paid to be democrats... whether working at City Hall, the County or the electricians union.

lots of union members in attendance

according to my union connections at three local unions.

Union leaders really fucked up

Union leaders really fucked up and their members will suffer.

no to tea party

The tea party folks (guns, god, and keeping those women/minorities/poor people in their place but we will pretend we are the regular folk) have done a very good job disrupting the democrats. I would rather hold my nose and vote democratic than deal with the tea party rhetoric.

Talk about rewriting history. Where were we two years ago? Are the Republicans that tied up every move forward and resulted in two steps back being held accountable or are you buying the Palin/Rand rewrite of eight years of Bush/Cheney? The legacy of George W., financial legacy that generations will be paying off, the moral and ethical legacy that gave us hundreds of thousands of people killed and made billions for private contractors, well, will we ever get over that? Yes, the local corruption has tainted the local politics,  and the so called county reform is a joke, but does that justify allowing the Republicans to walk away without ownership of the actions?

Take a look back. Two years ago, the mainstream political parties gave us a choice of Obama or McCain. Given those choices today, I would still vote for Obama.  Would I would campaign for Obama again, given the choices of McCain or Obama? You bettcha!

I won't campaign for Obama in 2011

I will fight Palin and her ilk, but we need a new choice for Democrat for President and Vice President for 2012 - and NOT SOMEONE NAMED CLINTON...

Or America must go Independent for REAL.

Disrupt IT

I agree, Norm

I agree, Norm, that we need new choices. We also need a new electorate that actually listens and researches the facts prior to casting a ballot, and when the elected person does not perform. then vote them out next time.

For the last three months, I have been involved in a project that kept me out of the loop, including the upcoming election. This weekend, my first free time in 10 weeks, I start to hear the ugly campaign smears (both sides) and I am glad that I did not have to listen to this all summer.

Six years ago tonight, a man that I respect, John Kerry, the day before the elections says "Wake up, America".  He was tired and frustrated that after 4 years of George W. stolen presidency, the invasion of Irag and Afghanistan, that the polls would have the race so close. The next day, the voters elected George W. You remember George W, would told the world "you're either with us or against us..."

What does it take? Where are we as a nation failing in the conversations about the real values that we need to embody as a nation that will benefit our nation and the world, and that those values do not include hate, bigotry, and war.

Mainstream Media failed Americans

Corporate America succeeded in polluting the minds of Americans - Mainstream Media sold out to corporations - union bosses sold out their members - politicians sold out the citizenry - politicians became the elite ruling class - and they all grew up during the height of lead poisoning in America and have limited mental abilities... especially where it is most polluted, like Cleveland.

Young new leaders with less toxic load in their brains and bodies... only solution.

Disrupt IT

I did not vote for Obama or McCain

Given they were my only two final choices, I voted by not voting.    I saw no reason to support either one of them.

and the bank bailout

McCain/Palin would have gifted that to the banks, rather than making the banks pay them back. In Ohio, if Kasich is elected, homes ownership devastors like Plymouth will be blessed by the new Governor. After all, JPMorgan and Kasich are of the same ilk.

Plymouth is a perversion of former Democratic Governor Florio

Plymouth is a perversion of former Democratic Governor Florio of New Joisey... certainly a friend of our Obama Nostra Governor Strickland.

These Democrats take corruption to a whole new level.

Obama really couldn't be doing much worse as President (and wait until China and Israel get really ugly, thanks to Hillary)... and I'd rather have Republicans fucking up so all the progressives would have something they were comfortable fighting against, rather than sucking up to these Manchurians...
