The historic building was designed by Levi Schofield -- one of Cleveland's prominent architects of his time -- who also designed the Soldiers' snd Sailors' Monument in Public Square. The monument opened on July 4, 1894. Public Square is currently under going reconstruction as a $50 million projec which is scheduled for completion in time for the Republlican Convention in 2016. The project has been mired in corruption and has been nicknamed the Jimmy Dimora Square.
