When good blogs go bad

Submitted by dwebb on November 28, 2009 - 12:38am.

When a progressive site is set up to foster networks, feed creative thoughts and expression, what happens when the site is infiltrated by right wingers who sole purpose is to disrupt the site? Is it because the site is too progressive, a coop site, or is it because certain weakness have been detected? Would it be difficult to place smoldering arguments in the site, to cause members to question each other and fight, causing a fracture to occur that can not be healed?

The radical right is very, very good a sowing dissent. They are able to throw out such muddled arguments on so many topics at one time that it makes rationale people spin. A rational person might be opposed to all but one topic, and there, the seed is planted, and the rational person begins to argue in defense of that topic and then it appears to be in favor of the radical right. The same radical right that still questions Obama's birth place, his name, referring to him as, gasp, a Muslim. Throw is abortion, the sanctity of marriage, Christianity, and there is a topic for everyone.

Can we survive it? We have blogged about it nationally, on the state level, at the local level. Now it is here at our door. They are knocking.

For more information, check out this website to see who is knocking:

It is a concern

Eternity

Time for an election

The only problem with REALNEO is that we need to move the COOP and site forward.

Our stats are great - our growth trends are healthy - our content and interaction is fantastic - our social network is vibrant... we remain unique and important.

We need to elect new board members and officers and move forward with many things - upgrading our techology, adding modules and capabiltiies, developing documentation, developing new bylaws, terms of use, etc... etc... meeting regularly and acting as an organization.

So, who is ready to step up and help lead REAL COOP and REALNEO forward - we need new blood at our top.

Speak up!

Does your posting mean that there are currently board members? Do you need additional blood at the top that is new, or a replacement of current blood? The upgrade, modules, and capabilities are far beyond me, and I am sure lots of us feel the same. The other stuff, members, documentation, by-laws, terms of usage, etc. is something that a number of us can be helpful with.  Being a board member is a different story. That is a long term commitment. Then there are members, like Eternity, that does not live in the Greater Cleveland area, but certainly is a full participant, so  is this a chance for a virtual board? Just some stuff to ponder....

I have gone to the first posting here by you, Norm, and I am working my way from the first to the current. It is a very slow go at this rate, but it is worth the learning  experience. At my rate, I will be done by November, 2010.

I know!  I came here

I know!  I came here recently and liked the format because it was easy to use and I noticed that there seemed to be freedom of speech that is not available many other places.  I am also not a techie so I won't be able to offer any help in that area.  But, whatever changes are made to the site I hope it keeps its appeal to those who like it just the way it is.

be a part of it

W14R, you need to be a part of what Norm is talking about.
