Wednesday, March 28 there will be a free screening of short films by Ana Mendieta that document her performances from the 1970s and 1980s, notably her earthwork/body art siluetas.
Mendieta, who was born in Cuba, was a critical figure in the development of feminist body art and performance in the 1970s. Her performances are ritualistic and political, combining traditional spiritual rites and symbolism with a feminist deployment of the body as a site for the production of art. The films will be introduced by Kirsten Swenson, lecturer in contemporary art at Case.
