We would like to invite you to join us on this full-moon-lit evening for the opening reception of Alt-Fiber: reclaiming art / craft, curated by Shannon Okey at Assemble galley. This show features embroidery, crewel, knitting, film, latch hook by some of today's greatest nationally know woman artists.
Walking the fine line between art and craft while exploring a woman's place in the world, this exhibit includes Whitney Lee's "soft porn" latch hook rugs, embroidery by Jenny Hart, Julie Jackson and Andrea Dezso, an intersection of film and knitting by NYC-based artist / publisher of knitting art magazine Sabrina Gschwandtner, a miniaturized version of Larissa Brown's "Meatheads" knitting installation, knitted wombs by MK Carroll and crewel work by Cleveland native Katherine Shaughnessy, author of The New Crewel.
Original pieces of art by these spectacular women artists will adorn the walls of Assemble Gallery, while Assemble Store will be chalk full of the latest product lines by these artists.
The opening reception takes tonight, Friday, January 13, from 7PM-10PM. More information can be found by going to: www.assemblegallery.com.
Also tonight at the 1300 complex, 1300 Gallery opens their 2006 season with Commercial Art: Rediscovery, featuring works by Mike Burton, Ken Hejduk, & Joe Parlett of Little Jacket. For this exhibition, Little Jacket, a Cleveland based design firm and creative studio, examines the differences and similarities between fine art and commercial art in their own work. As a company that often crosses these boundaries, especially with their poster design, Little Jacket is constantly questioning where to draw the line. Having half of their client list involved in the music industry and the art community makes this task strenuous. More information about this exhibit can be found by clicking over to: www.13hundred.com.
After the receptions, we would also like to invite you over to Touch Supper Club for our after party celebration of the opening of the 1300 and Assemble 2006 seasons. Be sure to speak with one of the Assemble or 1300 members for an exclusive pass for free entry to Touch tonight. Passes are limited to the first 175 people and each pass is good for one entry. Touch Supper Club is located in Ohio City at 2710 Lorain Ave. Click over to www.touchohiocity.com for more info and a list of Touch's other great events.
