Guy - I wanted to take this moment to wish you and your family a Happy Fourth of July. As we spend time with family and friends over this holiday weekend, we are reminded of the blessings of liberty we enjoy in our great country.

While we have plenty to celebrate this Independence Day weekend, we also know there are tremendous challenges in our midst. Washington faces a mounting fiscal crisis brought about by decades of overspending and unwillingness to admit that we can’t afford to keep doing business as usual. We need a credible budget plan to reverse the trend of rising debt and deficits, which is unsustainable. We need to take the steps necessary to ensure we do not leave to our children and grandchildren an America worse off than that left to us by our forefathers.

Too many Ohioans continue to be out of work this weekend, and our economy is faltering. Unfortunately, many in Washington continue to insist that the road to recovery is paved with more federal government spending, even as our country faces record debt and deficit. There is a better way. Washington needs to create an environment for job growth, and that starts by getting our fiscal house in order.

It is an honor to serve the people of Ohio in the U.S. Senate. My top priority remains getting Ohioans back to work and reviving America’s economy.

On this holiday we commemorate the bravery of our founding fathers’ decision 235 years ago to seek independence and create a special country with liberty for all. Jane and I hope you and your family will enjoy a wonderful Independence Day.
