Getting Old Together after years of friendship - so beautiful it's hard to look at dry eyed

Sunday I went with a friend to the municipal (not Cleveland's expensive) botanical garden.  As we approached the front entry there was a little plaza, and on the plaza the couple in the image above enjoyed the sun and passer bys.  

It was one of the first warm days of spring, a good time to be outside enjoying being alive.

I could hardly look at the couple - because it seemed clear to me that the lady was in pretty rough shape.

Not too rough of a shape that her companion wouldn't take her right out to the same botanical garden I was visiting.

Made me gulp.  

The bond between this couple was impossibly palpable.... I hope I can do it.

Then again, maybe I am imagining all this and the man is just the lady's nurse.
