Diane Ackerman will preside at Cleveland Public Library’s FREE and open to the public Writers and Readers Series on April 19, 2:00 p.m. at Main Library, Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium, E. 6th Street and Superior Avenue. Ackerman, born in Waukegan, Illinois, authored works of nonfiction, including, most recently, The Zookeeper's Wife, Winner of the 2008 Orion Book Award. The Zookeeper’s Wife recounts the Warsaw Uprising of 1943 and the lives of Jan Zabinksi, director of the Warsaw Zoo, and his wife, Antonina, and how they used the bombed-out zoo to shelter hundreds of Polish Jews.
