CLEVELAND — A city building inspector is expected to plead guilty this morning in U.S. District Court to accepting bribes.
Richard Huberty [6]was charged last month with taking bribes and extorting the owners of several businesses, including two controversial bars on the West Side. At the time, Huberty's lawyer said his client planned to plead guilty.
Huberty, 50, was scheduled to appear before U.S. District Judge Kate O'Malley to answer to 10 charges. Huberty likely faces about three years in prison, his lawyer said.

The charges against Huberty stem from a broader investigation into possible corruption among public officials and building contractors in Cuyahoga County.
Huberty is accused of extorting money from the owner of Mirage on the Water in exchange for being tipped off about future inspections. He also extorted cash from undercover agents and the owners of La Copa Bar and Grille, prosecutors said.
He is also charged with taking bribes to approve permits at the Stonebridge complex in the Flats.
Alert us. [19]
Corruption here in the county....Noooooo, can't be....OK, bring it on fellow bloggers,,,,ummmm La Copa Bar and Grille, Stonebridge....
Only suprise here is that this headline has not been repeated 20 or 30 times with different community leader jobs listed. The mistake on the lake, is living up to its' name. Way to go Cleveland.
As a former IRS employee, I sure hope he reports his "extra" income, because if he didn't guess who will be knocking on his door? It will more problems than he has now.
some of the cmha inspectors take bribes also - from landlords
parobe...so this only happens in Cleveland right? you need to get out more often.

A Credit to his department and people
Lets make an example shall we?
Sad part is, this guy gave up a decent job, health benefits, probably retirement for what, a couple of grand here and there maybe. Probably the money he got won't even cover a fraction in what he'll lose this year alone.
Thanks to the local news media, and the pd, one more political appointee sent packing. Please keep the heat on, I think you'll have the promise of many more interesting names that will be dragged out of the swill that they all seem to be hiding in. Go get im boys.
divadiva; No, it happens elsewhere also, but not to such an all encompassing degree. The last city that was this corrupt in the US was Chicago in the 60s.
this guy should be on the carpet in the county commissioners office. they will surely give him an earful!

Sorry about all the repeats
Parobe: What about Chicago today, what about Detroit, what about New Orleans. Believe me I'm not downplaying our crooked politicians, we are definitely in the majors but from what I read we got nothing on the big easy. I think our politicians aspire to greatness, [or infamy] though.
Any word on "Inspector No. #2". We really need the PD to investigate this person and the inspections relating to certain County Employees. Including the recently deceased Rosemary Vinci.
