With Photoshop it was possible to "stitch" together a series of overlapped still images to develop panoramas.
With new smart phones you can either swing the camera viewfinder through a 180 degree horizontal rotation or you can rotate the camera around an object. In either of these you are taking a video, then the on camera software stitches the video into a panorama. One gets some surprizing results...
