JEFFERSON PARK (LOCATED ON THE WEST SIDE IN CLEVELAND, OHIO) OPENS (UN-OFFICIALLY) FOR THE 2018 SEASON ON A SNOW-FREE 63 DEG. F JANUARY AFTERNOON
On Monday, January 22 – the temperature, that was hovering around 0 deg. F a few days ago, – hit a high of 63 degrees.
The high temperature and the rainfall we got on Sunday dissolved all of the snow in the park giving it a green sheen.
I walked to the tennis courts for a game of solo-tennis.
On the way I saw youths playing basketball.
There was a dirt-bike rider who was seen going up West 133rd Street and then up and down the length of the park. The photograph shows the rider doing his wheelies in front of the basketball court.
I said a prayer seeking blessings for the park and its users for the new year.
Played solo-tennis for an hour starting at 4:00 p.m. The courts were bone-dry. The nets were removed on December 6. It is more fun playing without the nets – every shot is an ace.
Saw children on the swings and youths riding their bicycles on the side streets.
I also met a neighborhood resident walking his dog.
There was no shortage of planes flying by in the thick overcast sky.
It started raining and I left at 5:00 p.m.
Saw one youth continue to play basketball in the rain.
On the way back, I met a jogger running north on West 132nd Street.
Felt very good using the park in the height of the winter season. I also wanted to go out on Thursday, January 11 (a 56 deg. F day) – but the courts were not dry – it had rained in the afternoon.
We only have two more months before we can officially say goodbye to winter.
Spring will (officially) arrive on Tuesday, March 20.
The days are getting longer. Today the sun rose at 7:46 a.m. and set at 5:30 p.m. – giving us a 9-hour and 44 min. long day. We have gained 34 minutes since the start of winter on December 21, 2017.
Enjoy the rest of the winter – with (lets hope) many spring-like and snow-free days in between.
