Is Faith an Ally or Enemy
to Democracy?

CLEVELAND, OH—Dr. David F. Forte, professor of law at
Cleveland State University’s Cleveland Marshall College of
Law, will explore the relationship of faith and democracy at noon on Monday, April 25,
2005, at The City Club of
Cleveland Youth Forum.

 

In
Iraq, suicide bombers murder innocent
civilians in the name of Allah. Religious leaders in
Saudi
Arabia preach hatred. And yet, faith was a
primary source of the liberties Americans now enjoy. And it was the religious
faith of Pope John Paul II that had much to do with the destruction of one of
the worst tyrannies in history—the former Soviet Union. Can democracy take root and
prosper without the support of religion?

Dr. Forte is continuously working to
improve the standards of human rights worldwide. He is often called upon to
testify before the United States Congress and has consulted with the Department
of State on human rights and international affairs issues. A frequent lecturer,
Forte speaks on national and international radio and television programs, and
his public service has been recognized by many, including the Cleveland Bar
Association and the late Pope John Paul II. In addition to being chairman of the
Cleveland Bar Association’s Professional Ethics Committee, Dr. Forte is author
of several briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court and chief counsel to the
United
States delegation to the United Nations.

 

The program is not open to the
