New York Times Criticizes Kenneth Blackwell's Handling of Voter Registration in Ohio

Submitted by Charles on Thu, 06/08/2006 - 00:32.

None other than the New York Times has opined on the sad state of voter affairs in the state of Ohio. All I could think of is the quote attribued to Yogi Berra that "This is like deja vu all over again." Here's what the editorial observed in part:

The latest sign that Republicans have an election-year strategy to shut down voter registration drives comes from Ohio. As the state gears up for a very competitive election season this fall, its secretary of state, J. Kenneth Blackwell, has put in place "emergency" regulations that could hit voter registration workers with criminal penalties for perfectly legitimate registration practices. The rules are so draconian they could shut down registration drives in Ohio.

At RealNEO the concepts of openness, sharing and community are realized not just in how we as a group of people interact, but also in the tools we use. The best example of one of these tools is the software used on many of the team members notebooks.

Apathy downtown not limited to riding to work

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 06/04/2006 - 01:28.

Tuesday after Memorial Day I was suprised to come across Mayor Jackson hosting a Veterans Memorial Day event at the Mall, with only a few dozen folks present. The Veterans organization that organized the event certainly made nice arrangements, including printing a detailed program, and the occassion was important to a large part of our community - veterans and their families and loved ones. But there were few people there representing anyone.. not even war protesters.

SBA and East Cleveland

The SBA (Small Business Administration) and East Cleveland announce a plan to help East Cleveland businesses prosper.  This is an exciting time for business owners who really want to see their companies prosper.  Some of the monies being loaned out are at prime or even interest AND payment free. While this is no free lunch, those who are serious about running a business in East Cleveland will find this an opportunity that comes by very rarely!

What is on the mind of an 8 year old?

Submitted by Phillip Williams on Fri, 05/26/2006 - 21:08.

My children just got into town for their summer vist today.  I was talking to my 8 year old boy about everything that has been happening while they were in TN.

When I was talking to my boy about his hat, and the fact that it was not new he said something that would make any parent as proud as I am now...

UPDATE- Cleveland Innerbelt Project

Bridge in France

The ODOT Cleveland Innerbelt Project's- Project Development Process (PDP) & Public Involvement Process (PIP) seem to be in limbo since the last public meeting on November 17, 2005.  ODOT's and City of Cleveland's PDP & PIP Schedule has not been followed and appears to be five (5) months behind schedule.  The "Alternatives Report" and the "Economic Impact Analysis" were scheduled to be completed in December 2005, for public review and comment.  THE REPORT AND ANALYSIS - DO NOT EXIST AT THIS TIME.  Even though the general public has been effectively removed from the public processes, a lot of activity has been going on since November 2005.  Below is a brief update on some of those activities.  Please visit www.neobridge.net to participate in this community discussion and to get the latest updates on OUR Cleveland Innerbelt Project.

The economic value of pro sports surfaces at A.J. Rocco's

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 05/15/2006 - 12:52.

While I'm not a pro sports expert, I was very pleased to see today, having coffee at A. J. Rocco's, a friendly table of local sports experts including at least one of the Cleveland Cavliers - probably the only one I'd recognize out of uniform (and I don't mean King James). I asked if they minded me taking a picture but they weren't dressed for the press. So, if you want to hang out with the Cavs, in their hangouts, you'll have to come downtown to A.J. Rocco's yourself. Or, you could reach out to them...
