“There’s gold in them thar hills” is a well-known quote which we are now told is a misquote.

 

Quote or misquote – nothing like seeing objects in the world around us that remind us of gold:

 

 

gold as a color,

 

gold as a precious metal, and

 

the failed effort by alchemists during the Middle Ages to convert lead to gold.

 

None of that laboratory stuff for converting lead to gold (test tubes, flasks, burners, fumes, explosions, etc.) for me!

 

And who can afford gold currently (October, 2021) selling at nearly $1,800 per ounce – which works out to $28,800 per pound which is an astronomical price compared with GOLDen carrots selling at $1 per pound at the local grocery store – one of my favorite vegetables that I munch on regularly.

 

I love flowers and the world around us – so that is where I spend my time looking for gold –related brightness in golden rods, marigolds, and in the sun’s golden rays during the late summer and autumn months.

#2 shows golden rods (photographed on September 4th in the early evening), which were spotted growing in the front lawn of a house on West 133rd Street facing Jefferson Park. I love golden rods -- they signal that autumn is around the corner -- (in fact autumn arrived on September 22nd). They also remind me of the summers my late wife and I used to spend on Long Island, NY, with its lush growth of golden rods (my late wife and I are from NYC and moved here in 2001).

 

#3 shows giant marigolds, growing out of a pot, in our house on the south side of Jefferson Park were photographed on the afternoon of September 15th.

 

#4 shows golden rays from the setting sun, which were observed from the northwestern tennis court (along West 133rd Street) where I play solo tennis every evening (weather permitting) on September 16th at 7:06 p.m. shortly before sunset, which on that date was at 7:35 p.m.

 

“There’s gold around Jefferson Park” should be the current quote!
