On September 23rd, Cleveland Next kicked off an effort to gather ideas and help put them into action within a one-year time frame. The Cleveland Next program is sponsored by Cuyahoga Community College's Corporate College.

The first meeting began with Dr. Denise Reading, President of the Corporate College, talking about the goals of the Cleveland Next program. Then she introduced Mr. Watts Wacker, who shared his futuristic insights and inspirational message on how to make things happen.

Mr. Wacker talked about being part of the new movement in Cleveland and to make a difference in the 21st century. He covered many topics regarding policy, economic, social and technology issues. Some of his suggestions were to challenge conventional ways of thinking, recognize that your ideas may not be the best, and to be willing to make sacrifices.

Dr. Reading concluded by addressing the next steps. Cleveland Next will select projects that can be accomplished within a year and assist the champions of those projects. There will be monthly meetings and project milestones set for every three months. She said, "resist talking about what you want to do, it's about taking action on what you are going to do."
