People who are poor, especially people of color, face a far greater risk of being fined, arrested, and even incarcerated for minor offenses. Many innocuous acts such as soliciting financial help, sitting on a sidewalk, or sleeping in a park, can all result in jail time. To make matters worse, in Ohio you could be charged fees to pay for that jail time!

Join us to discuss this issue and ways to combat the criminalization of poverty. Presenters include:

  • James Levin, Legal Director, Famicos Legal Works
  • Jocelyn Rosnick, Policy Manager, ACLU of Ohio
  • Joseph Mead, Assistant Professor, Cleveland State University, Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law
