Cleveland Public Library Social Sciences Book Club - April 7, 2011Submitted by newmillenniumli... on Thu, 03/24/2011 - 12:43.
The Social Sciences Department of the Cleveland Public Library will hold their non-fiction book club discussion Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 12:00 PM in the Social Sciences Department (Sports Research Center). We will discuss the book entitled, "Jackie Robinson and the American Dilemma." (by John R.M. Wilson). "In this gripping profile of a pioneer, John R. M. Wilson illustrates how Jackie Robinson's life transcended his baseball career to illuminate the racial struggles of the nation. By breaking the color barrier in baseball, Jackie Robinson (1919-1973) brought the American pubic face-to-face with a dilemma that has plagued the nation throughout its history: the disjuncture between the American ideals of liberty and equality and the realities of racial prejudice, segregation, and discrimination."
Please join us for an enlightened book discussion. Copies of the book may be picked up in Social Sciences Department and checked out in Lending Department. However, due to the popularity of the title, if you would like a copy held for you in our department, please contact us as soon as possible. Feel free to bring your lunch. Coffee, water, and refreshments will be provided. ______________________________________________________________________________
