K92WEB_20130328140545_JPGRICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio - Kubo Casto, a K-9 officer for Richmond Heights police, will be laid to rest on April 2. Kubo died suddenly on March 24. He was 12 years old.

Born in Germany in 2001, Kubo was adopted by the Casto family in 2003.

On Tuesday, family and friends will pay their respects to the K-9 cop from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home, 28890 Chardon Rd. in Willoughby Hills.

According to Casto's obituary, Kubo was certified in narcotic detection, tracking, criminal apprehension along with building/area searches. In his 10-year career, alongside partner Patrolman Tim Casto, Kubo was responsible for locating cash and narcotics and making the community safer for its residents.

Officer Kubo helped track and find a 7-year-old girl who disappeared from school. He is also credited with finding an Alzheimer's patient who went missing from his home, among other notable work.

He was a "Top Dog" award winner and was a beloved pet to the Casto family when he was off-duty.
