A City’s Horizon, Reshaped by an Empty Promise

"The Pyramid in Memphis, rising 321 feet from the banks of the Mississippi River, is a hollow, empty venue, which has had trouble finding a purpose for itself." Dan Barry for the NYTimes October 27, 2008

Sound familiar? Richfield Coliseum? IX Center?

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Too many days at Brown's Stadium?

Medical Mart?

If there is any possibility that a medical mart is not the panacea it's made out to be, please, please don't build it in our downtown. If you want to visit a largely vacant haunted space in downtown Cleveland go to the Mall or Public Auditorium or the stadium any weekend day. Stand in the veritable silence and imagine a cavernous convention center astride the mighty Cuyahoga or dug under the mall. Imagine it cobwebbed and devoid of activity. Please let us consider carefully this decision because the last thing Cleveland needs is a failed attempt at rescue right in its already scarred city center.
