Thursday, October 14, 2004 - It’s a Nano World at HealthSpace Cleveland!

New Traveling Exhibition Focusing on Nanobiotechnology

HealthSpace Cleveland, Northeast Ohio’s new destination for health education, shared learning and family fun, presents the traveling exhibition, “It’s a Nano World,” opening Thursday, October 14 and continuing through Sunday, January 9, 2005. The exhibition, encompassing approximately 3,000 sq. ft., focuses on the smallest of our world’s biological wonders through a series of hands-on interactives, displays and audio-visual presentations. School groups and families with younger children will find this exhibition of particular interest as they explore a series of large magnifying instruments, scopes, scales, and even a giant blood drop pit.

Among the many exhibits:
Cell Sorters Guests separate cells by hand based on physical properties of the examples.
How Many Nanometers Tall Are You? Visitors can measure their height using a nano-specific measuring device.
Magnification Station A series of table-top magnifying instruments help guests understand the size of different objects and how they relate to nanometers.
Adventures in Tiny Things A cluster of devices representing germs, dust and pollen and the paths they might take to the human body.
Giant Blood Drop Young guests can jump in to a pit which contains hundreds of red plastic balls and illustrates red blood cells found in a drop of our blood.
Patricia Horvath, HealthSpace Cleveland’s executive director and chief executive officer, noted that this exhibition comes to Cleveland at a time of growing interest in nano technology: "Our exhibition, 'It's a Nano World,' has high relevance to the success our community is achieving in the fields of medicine and manufacturing. Our exhibition enlarges and simplifies these complicated concepts for guests of all ages. The exhibition is featured in the Cleveland Clinic-Case Western Reserve Nano Week Summit activities in October, and we plan to present public programs which spotlight the work being done locally and nationally in this growing area of study."

It’s a Nano World is presented with the generous support of Cleveland-Akron Family Magazine, 1260 AM-Radio Disney, WVIZ/Ideastream, and Cleveland.com.

Admission to It’s a Nano World is included with paid admission for regular guests.
