Jonathan Lykes, at a Slam U workshop, wears the suit he donned earlier in the day for Mock Trial competition. "If I can stretch myself as far as possible without breaking, then I'm doing good," he says. "But slam is definitely one of the most important things in my life."
Slamming up
• Events for Playhouse Square's Slam U education program are free, but participants are asked to register. Call 216-348-7909.
• Competitions to become one of five teens to represent Cleveland at a national slam poetry contest take place Friday, April 11, and Friday, April 18.
• Drop-in workshops will be presented from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 27, at the Idea Center at Playhouse Square. For more information, go to Playhousesquare.org and click on arts education.
