Police investigating (at least THREE) Tremont armed robberies this week despite increased police presence also dead criminalSubmitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Sat, 05/02/2015 - 00:23.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Police are investigating two armed robberies in the city's Tremont neighborhood this week, despite the fact that officers have been giving the area special attention after a rash of property crimes and another armed robbery. At least three people have had handguns stuck in their faces since April 18, and several car windows have been smashed this month, prompting increased patrols. The latest victim was robbed in the 2800 block of West 11th Street, just south of a pedestrian bridge over Interstate 490, about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, police spokesman Sgt. Ali Pillow said. Police were unable to provide further details of the incident. But police reports indicate two other people were robbed at gunpoint in the previous 10 days. The first reported robbery occurred about 1 a.m. April 18. Two men were walking south on West 11th Street toward Literary Avenue when two attackers jumped from a yard near Lemko Hall. One attacker pressed a black and silver pistol against one victim's head. "You know what this is, what you got," the gunman said, as the other assailant rifled through the men's pockets. The attackers fled north on West 11th Street, the report said. That incident came during a flurry of shattered car window reports, prompting Second District Commander Thomas Stacho to order increased midnight patrols. It was about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when a 36-year-old Boston man stood outside The Spotted Owl, an upscale cocktail bar at West 7th Street and Jefferson Avenue, talking on his cellphone. Two men came up behind him and pressed a black handgun against his neck, according to a police report. "Give me everything or I will kill you," the assailant said. The man handed over a silver iPhone 6 and an empty money clip. The attackers demanded his iPhone passcode and patted him down for cash before they ran west on Jefferson toward Professor Avenue. There have been no arrests reported. Anyone with information is asked to call Second District detectives at 216-623-5218. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/05/police_investigating_tw... ____________________________ CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has identified Kyle Waler, 39, as the man found dead Thursday morning in Tremont. An environmental engineering worker discovered the body about 10:30 a.m. in a brushy area off Literary Road near West 3rd Street. Police at the scene would not release details. The medical examiner has not determined Waler's cause of death. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/04/medical_examiner_ids_ma...
