If you spend any time in her courtroom, you will see she regularly holds people in contempt of court for "unruly" behavior. Even reading a book in her courtroom will get you in trouble.

Its her courtroom and its her perogative.

Bucking it does no one any good - and certainly not Guy's case. This is nothing new and it is unrelated.

Stokes Intolerance for Disruptive behavior...

I guess that no matter how we debate it...the majority of us would----for this 1 instance----like to see her to disrupt the corrupt regime and give them a piece of her mind at a level that defended the mass quantities of citizens who've been stepped on over the years. I can respect her methods and appreciate them all the same. I guess we are all just so frustrated with delays in social justice around our community that perhaps we have not given her the chance to show us what she is made of on behalf of Mr. Guy Templeton Black & Yogi....

So...I will pray that come Friday....Judge Angela Stokes shows her best true colors in justice with her sentencing choices for  Mr. Catania....

Perhaps she will surprise us all....forgive the "disruptions" from the last hearing, and finally appreciate the people's need for protection from abusive public servants to a degree that makes all of them think twice before attempting to use mafia tactics to scare, intimidate, and assault our people! 

Judges and court decorum

Judges set the tone in their courtroom. It is their court, and when s/he is known to not tolerate certain behaviors, then behave. This is a misdeamnor case.  While the person on trial, Catania, represents what is so wrong in many of our neighborhoods, in court, he will be sentenced for what he has plead. To insist that Judge Stokes "disrupt the corrupt regime..." is unreasonable and, quite frankly, stupid.

If you want to make a difference to the oppressed folks, go knock on their doors and invite them to a meeting.

In this particular case, I personally believe that Judge Stokes is leaning on Guy's side of the fence.  At the last hearing we attended in November when it became apparent that the attorney(s) (prosecutor and Sammy's representation) had agreed (against Guy's wishes) on a plea bargain of "Menacing," a conference in chambers with the judge was requested.  They were gone so long we thought they forgot to come back.

However, upon their return, the attorneys each took their respective clients (Guy and the Prosecutor and Sammy and his lawyer) aside for a discussion.  When everyone re-entered the courtroom, it was made part of the record that the charges would be amended.

The amended charges would be - Aggravated Dis-orderly Conduct (1st degree misdemeanor which carries the same sentence as Assault) AND Menacing.

This clearly had to be Judge Stokes' decision because if the Prosecutor was offering Menacing ONLY it is no doubt that Sammy's attorney would have accepted the deal.  It is reasonable to believe that the fact that the conference in chambers took over an hour that the Judge was not backing down.

In addition to the fact that TWDC Board members being tossed out of the courtroom on the basis of "they don't know how to conduct themselves in a court of law" speaks for itself.  These fine ladies (one also the director of Merrick House) who represent our community organization lacked the discipline/control to beheave themselves in a courtroom setting.  Surely, someone should suggest that tuning into "Judge Judy" is definitely a must.

Lilly simply got called back for banging the door which I'm not sure she intended to do?

My point is that the judge is not the issue. The judge would naturally be sympathetic to the victim, especially when the whole thing was taped! All of the posting about using this case to even the playing field goes no where and detracts from the real issues.

Here are a couple of issues: When this happened, TWDC took the position that they could not discipline of fire Catania as he had not been charged. He has both been charged and convicted,  and is still employed at TWDC. Why?

The other issue, the one that really reeks as it is so freaking overt, is the legal justice system. When the police came out to the park at the time of the assault, a police report was not filed. The victim was forced to go to the police station to file when he learned that a report did not exist. After visiting the prosecutor's office to follow up, it was another two months before charges were filed. The process also changed so that a Special Prosecutor was assigned. Why? 

These are important issues that should not be ignored.

either....as all day the bailiffs were catching that same door so that it never banged. I believe that she thought the bailff would have prevented the closing bang as she had done for over 3 hours prior to that incident. I believe it was an accident. Yet-I am glad the judge recognized Lily as a dear advocate for GUY and stopped the pursuit of charges against her for contempt.

Whereever Judge Stokes is leaning...I pray that it speaks LOUD & CLEAR about the behavior of public servants in general....and the code of conduct that they should be expected to uphold...
