Take your marbles and go........including any loose ones.
Come on, Angel. We all knew this kid when we were playing in the dirt in the backyard. As soon as she or he can't have it all their way--well, then, they threw a snit.
When they got older and into high school, if they hadn't socialized in the meantime, they got sullen, became "mean girls", or just hated the "popular" kids.
Remember, kid, there ARE some truly angry people around. Be careful. And, don't feed into them.
I'm new here and our words speak for themselves. I'll stand by mine, as unvaluable as they are. About all I know to do is bring some good will to my actions, to avoid out and out malice. However, agendas and silliness are open game for fair criticism, parody, or satire. I guess a right wing nut job like myself shouldn't be here. "If you don't agree with me, I'm going home. I want all my postings back."
That's an adult?........serious issues there. Pay heed.
everyone, no one would have had to defend themselves. Debra is great for saying Silence is Complicity
I say Silence is acquiescence, but I wasn't going to ruin this blog in defending each and every attack.
Yet, here she is, using her freedom of choice. Her time could all have been spent so much better on worthwhile projects instead of the mess she did, IMO. Betty
The problem is, America is NOT a Democracy - it is a Republic! As our Founding Fathers established, can we keep it?
I hear that you are discouraged by dbra's deletions. She was a long term member, a wonderful photographer and artist, known to all other long term members as first lobelia and then dbra when a new e-mail account occurred with the internet upgrade; she had her name listed on both accounts.
I can't speak for Debra but I'd guess that she and I feel the same on a number of issues: art, gardens, politics, women, and the state of our world. Realneo, we thought, was a way to voice our love, or concern on those things. I did not catch on to the bickering for a while, and when I did, felt it was mild.
However, when we were brought into the midst of questions about what was going on behind the scenes at realneo, and then saw firsthand that the administrators were incapable of communicating freely among each other, and also unable to communicate meaningfully with members (users); this lead to disenchantment and frsutrations. Add in new posters who were not up to speed lead to more frustrations.
The question of who should be on home page (one poster) vs blog vs being banned showed us a year ago that we have a policy problem. Being able to declare a person a troll, blocking or deleting them, should not be an unilateral decision.
There are many reasons that members have left. Debra is the only one that took the Ed Hauser approach and and tried systemically to scrub away her account. She kept at it to make her point, and did so openly.
Real Co-op that owns realneo alludes that by being a member of realneo automatically makes one a member of the co-op, but then that gets us back to who is real co-op, and what is a co-op. We have members who would view this as a socialist organization (and I hope that it is).
So, I guess things brings me to this question: Would going an IT way with a new format address all of the other baggage listed above? Or would it complicate in the long term?
here and it is accepted. Even admin folks use it. I no longer am bothered by it as I used to be. If it does bother you, though, either don't read it or move on because it is part of the vernacular on realneo, as it is in real life.
I am more concerned about the intent behind nice words than I am about outright vulgarity.

Do you really see such a separation between vulgar language and vulgar thought? Especially when supposedly intelligent people discuss serious matters?
My years with military men and my blue collar roots did not give me dainty, delicate sensibilities. Do you think the NY'ers I now live with say "pretty please with a cherry on top?"
But, seriously--malice can be concealed just as well behind earthy, tell-it-like-it is, keeping-it-real potty mouth as it can be behind "nice words". In fact, it's easier because when the pastor lets fly with blue language, everyone sees that his slip is showing. But, when some neighborhood boozehound does it, no one notices too much, because the acid rot soul can hide in plain sight.
The trick is to develop the nose for airs, b.s., and malice that most city kids kind of have naturally. In doing that, we're challenged to not become cynical and suspicious about all motives and actions.
I do hope you don't develope too tone-deaf of an ear to vulgarity. Yes, sometimes it is fun. But, so is understatement and innuendo (Speaking of--doesn't that word just sound, ah, "wrong"?). There really is cultural soul rotting all around. Any look back confirms it. Any look to present places where it is not appreciated--church, in front of kids, etc.--shows how vulgarity is instinctively suspect.
Oh, thanks for the explanation about blocking, too

Jeff,
What were you supposed to do? Lighten up on yourself. Either we're adults or not. There were all kinds of signs. Some people can't exist well outside echo chambers.
The train was quite crowded and a U. S. Marine walked the entire length looking for a seat. There seemed to be one next to a well-dressed French woman, but when he got there, he saw it was taken by the woman's poodle. The war-weary Marine asked, "Ma'am, may I have that seat?"
The French woman sniffed and said to no one in particular, "Americans are so rude. My little Fifi is using that seat."
The Marine walked the entire train again, but the only seat available was under that dog. "Please, ma'am. May I sit down? I'm very tired."
She snorted, "Not only are you Americans rude, you are also arrogant!"
This time the Marine didn't say a word; he just picked up the little dog, tossed it out the train window and sat down.
The woman shrieked, "Someone defend me! Put this American in his place!"
An English gentleman sitting nearby spoke up. "Sir, you Americans seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You hold the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you seem to have thrown the wrong b*tch out the window.

So yes guys, smile, take the good with the bad. In my book, if it does not involve smoke, blood or loss of life or limb, it is a small thing
and not worth any stress. Chances are, if you can't remember all details in a year from now, it was not much. Grin, Betty

Sorry I missed the drama here last week. I've been on the road and pretty out of touch until yesterday. I tried to clean up the mess here on realNEO when I got back.
It is a shame so many realNEO "members" are so dysfunctional right now, as we have lots of important traffic here right now - the most traffic ever - I image that is why the polluter-trolls are especially active, these days... putting on a show for the EPA.
But, none of that matters, any more - I've warned the authorities to expect such fun and games... smoke and mirrors... here in unreal NEO, and on realNEO.
Regarding how such a mess is possible, on realNEO... without me baby-sitting the site each day...?!?!
I had installed and configured the current implementation of Drupal that is realNEO in 2004 and have not really changed or upgraded the configuration since 2005 - we have updated versions and moved servers a few times, and played with spam filters and stats, but other than that, this is a 2005 website. That it has served the community, world, and members so well, all that time, is a tribute to Drupal and Open Source software, which has evolved well beyond the current realNEO implementation, since 2005.
Even in 2005, when I launched realNEO, the plan was to continuously update the environment to be state of the art, rather than retro-art. But the entire development process was destroyed by Peter Holmes and Jones Day, and then the current "board", "chaired" for years now, without-vote, by Jeff Buster.
What happened here, Jeff? What happened in the Middle East? You declared yourself Dictator of realNEO and you suck, at best!
The board was supposed to set up committees, promote realNEO, and develop the environment - hold regular meetings and develop Real Co-op as a co-op. The board did none of those things, and obstructed me from organizing members to do what the board failed to do. They ran a standard Jones Day obstruction campaign of inaccessibility and denial of responsibility, like has destroyed America.
I have given up on the current board and consider them enemies of this community. I have no expectations realNEO will evolve beyond its current dysfunctional state without complete organizational disruption and a new board here. Nothing less will offer any valuable change.
In the mean time, I will babysit realNEO as I am able.
I am chairing development of the United Cannabis Exchange, which has me on the road most of my time, and I am Chief Technology Officer of Cincinnati Change, which has me implementing a current state-of-art Drupal environment for Cincinnati and the world that will not have the problems we have here at realNEO. As that environment is deployed, we will see the technical and organizational structures needed for realNEO and Real Coop become clear.
So, I suggest the members of realNEO get real - as in the future of realNEO is for REAL PEOPLE only - and get our new board of directors and officers together - and get ready for V2 of the technological environment to come, as we upgrade this site to leverage all the features of Drupal and world class open source IT available to us now, in 2011.

No, I have always liked Dbra

Angel - account deletion makes one think...
I am discouraged by dbra's account deletions.
Lots of time down the drain. For a lot of people - besides dbra.
And it seems counter intuitive that all the conviction which went into the posts would somehow be erased - forgotten - by the deletions.
Makes me wonder, was it conviction?
Anyway, it's all in the Google cache.
REalneo is like a public park. Anyone can sit down on the park bench next to you.
Is that a problem?
Angel, thanks for your thoughts and noticing that dbra, lob, etc were withdrawing.
