Why limit gambling locations?Submitted by Jeff Buster on Tue, 12/07/2004 - 23:30.
I find it difficult to follow the "logic" of gambling advocates, because while advocating for a constitutional change to allow gambling, they also want to limit (to 7 or 10) the number of casino locations. If gambling is the economic, civic and social benefactor which its advocates claim, then limiting the number of locations would seem to limit those wonderful "benefits". I say if we choose to allow gambling, let’s spread those civic and social benefits far and wide. Let's make gambling available like gasoline - ubiquitous gambling social service stations on streetcorners throughout every Ohio community. In this way, we can be certain that the benefits of gambling reach every member of our state, and not just those 7 or 10 developers whose lobbyists are already shuffling the legislative deck. At least the "logic" would be consistent.
