blogsCensus 2010--Passing StrangeSubmitted by lmcshane on Sun, 12/27/2009 - 08:44.

video - AMAZING SPEECH BY WAR VETERAN - Mike Prysner - The real enemy is a system that wages war when it's profitableSubmitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Sat, 12/26/2009 - 05:55.
Our real enemy is not the ones living in a distant land whose names or policies we don't understand; The real enemy is a system that wages war when it's profitable, the CEOs who lay us off our jobs when it's profitable, the Insurance Companies who deny us Health care when it's profitable, the Banks who take away our homes when it's profitable. Our enemies are not several hundred thousands away. They are right here in front of us

You may have noticed that the Plain Dealer gave cover to its favorite Senator, George Voinovich, on the health care bill. Of course, Voinovich – who has spent more than 40 years on a government health plan – voted NO on a bill that could help more than 1.3 million Ohioans.

"Legal" air pollution may also kill. (particulate pollution within legal limits has measurable public health consequences)Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Thu, 12/24/2009 - 02:42.
Even in cities whose air quality meets federal standards, air pollution may contribute to death rates from lung cancer and cardiopulmonary disease, researchers say. - the answer is "no" norm: Question of the day: does it make sense to build public-subsidized housing near pollution? ( categories: )
PLAIN DEALER - DISSECTED ON ISSUE 6Submitted by Roldo on Wed, 12/23/2009 - 13:45.
Veteran reporter Anastasia Pantsios has written a detailed and convincing piece on Ohio Daily about the Plain Dealer’s campaign to pass Issue 6 and how it failed to give the public a true picture about County reform and hid some of the characters behind the push.

Question of the day: does it make sense to build public-subsidized housing near pollution?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 12/23/2009 - 06:00.
The 2002 Canadian scientific report "Air pollution induces heritable DNA mutations" finds "Integrated steel production generates chemical pollution containing compounds that can induce genetic damage." And, the 2009 German report "Long-term exposure to traffic-related particulate matter impairs cognitive function in the elderly" finds "chronic exposure to traffic-related PM (particulate matter) may be involved in the pathogenesis of AD (Alzheimer's Disease)". So, who thought it was a good idea to spend $43 million of scarce government and quasi-public funding to build Tremont Pointe government-subsidized housing, located within scent and fallout of the Mittal Cleveland Works Steel mill, and other highly polluting industry of the Cleveland Flats, and directly adjacent to the I-490 freeway, planned to have increased polluting traffic through expansion as the "Opportunity Corridor"?

Physicians for National Health Program @ Common Dreams - A national organization of 17,000 physicians who favor a single-payer health care system called on the US Senate today to defeat the health care legislation presently before it and to immediately consider the adoption of an expanded and improved Medicare-for-All program.
While noting that the Senate bill includes some "salutary provisions" like an expansion of Medicaid, increased funding for community clinics and the curbing of some
