Hooper's Farm on MLK Day 2010

Submitted by lmcshane on January 18, 2010 - 3:20pm.

Here are some photos taken today in the vicinity of Hooper's Farm in Tremont.
Note the new construction and lack of any attempt to control stormwater, silt and mud run off from the site.

Give until it hurts

How much more of this can we take?

First of all, why would any one bother to give to United Way after stories like this one?

Rich Man, Poor Man

Submitted by lmcshane on January 5, 2010 - 10:11am.

Does growing up rich, make you a better person?  It's scary to me that I am reliving the seventies, again...and revisiting movies and books that provided some compass for our future then.  Does anyone else remember Irwin Allen and Charlton Heston?

There must be a better way to build a better society.

The Big FLUSH

Submitted by lmcshane on January 3, 2010 - 5:42pm.

We don't like to think about it...flush and it's gone, right?

The NEORSD would have you believe that their proposed rate increase is an example of good government and sound ecology--and today they paid the Plain Dealer (with your money) to run a full-paid advertisement defending their decision to stick us with the additional fees.

Reasons to be thankful...

Recently, Charles Michener, NEO's favorite prodigal son, raconteur and bon vivant, penned an ode to living in NEO, which was published in the Plain Dealer.

Census 2010--Passing Strange

Submitted by lmcshane on December 27, 2009 - 8:44am.

How will demographics change the course of NEO? I am especially concerned about the categorizations the ten-year census will use to determine funding allocations.  Should ethnicity matter?  Ohio stands to lose a House seat.

Reporting crime

Submitted by lmcshane on December 21, 2009 - 10:53am.

I recently found out about this City of Cleveland service--is there an app for it?

Why not be able to report minor fender bender incidents?  This would greatly free up police officers.  Here are the reporting options:

X-mas with the Russos and Rzepkas

Submitted by lmcshane on December 21, 2009 - 10:09am.

It seems that no matter where we are in NEO, there is no way to get away from the FAMILY...not even that long walk in the park.

How does Larkin know all of this inside information?...And how is it that Developer Fred Rzepka is never questioned for his life-time board position and opportunity to award contracts?

Bread and Chocolate

Submitted by lmcshane on December 13, 2009 - 8:52pm.

The Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Victor Liva today at Zion United Church of Christ in Tremont today--was transcendent.

The music felt like chocolate for the soul, after subsisting on bread and water for too long.
