Mark Naymik has an editorial today and has solicited tweets from key council folk like Joe Cimperman meant to make him feel like a hardball reporter...insane.

Recording the Story of Northeast Ohio

Submitted by lmcshane on Sat, 12/29/2012 - 14:16.

REALNEO has been a difficult experiment, but I hope that a national organization, maybe even the Library of Congress, decides that it is a site worthy of preservation.  We are undergoing a difficult time in our world history as technology changes our perception of reality and changes how our society operates. I really wish that there was a better way of recording the zeitgeist of our times.  How many blogs and digital content will survive and be recorded as books preserve our stories?

Walk, ride and get out

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 12/16/2012 - 21:54.

Life goes on.  The city continues to move.  Yesterday,  it was sunny and warm.  I was able to take the train to University Circle, and to swim at CWRU.  And, then I walked along the empty bike lane that runs up Fairhill through the Doan Brook watershed.  Flags were at half-staff at the Baldwin Water Plant.  Shaker Square was decked out for the holidays.

Please help prevent disinvestment in Brooklyn Centre-Save ALDIs and Wirth House

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 12/02/2012 - 14:37.

Please help hold city officials accountable and stop disinvestment of services in Brooklyn Centre:

There is gross misuse of federal funds.  City of Cleveland provides incentives to corporate interests and developers but does not help communities retain services and allows use of federal monies to destroy historical fabric of a neighborhood.

So, regardless of whether the levy passes, we will see a state-appointed commission take the helm of Cleveland schools as soon as January.

Photo above shows construction standards for "new" Paul L. Dunbar school just south of St. Ignatius--see posts at REALNEO on Buhrer School for the insanity of this construction and gross waste of taxpayer $$$--carpetbaggers...

Uptown aka Greater University Circle

It was great to have today off --and to do two things I love to do--swim and eat.  I have a CWRU family connection and use of the pool there.  And, I love the days I get to visit the campus and relive the college milieu.

Journalism or Propaganda ??? Your $$$

Submitted by lmcshane on Wed, 10/03/2012 - 18:33.

In a rare show of common sense, the Plain Dealer actually heeded the comments posted to a story:

When this came out--I felt the usual nausea: the Plain Dealer printing propaganda to support the Land Bank, though the numbers were so obviously bogus.  I have been banned at the PD, so I rarely comment anymore.  I chocked it up to the same old...

I am feeling fairly depressed over my options in this coming election. The Senate campaign choices did not impress me until I saw that that I do have choice now:

Koinonia Homes aka Land BANK

Submitted by lmcshane on Fri, 08/24/2012 - 08:43.

(coin-o-NEE-yah) is a rich, complex word of Greek origin. Community, partnership and generous sharing are at the heart of the word. When translated into English, it means fellowship.

Okay, this is really starting to smell funny and no one is going to say ANYTHING?

The Land Bank is now...ALSO a Social Service Agency?

Independence Day

Submitted by lmcshane on Wed, 07/04/2012 - 18:10.

I will post more photos soon--I am compiling images from my neighborhood for a Brooklyn Centre bicentennial celebration 1812-2012.  The little girl above may not appreciate the significance of Indpendence Day until she is older--her family emigrated from Burundi.  It has been very typical for new Americans to arrive via the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood.

CLE+ Condemnation=Demos for Developers

Submitted by lmcshane on Wed, 07/04/2012 - 06:21.

At a dinner conversation the other day, I was told by a person who works with area businesses that the City of Cleveland can condemn a property --regardless of the building condition-- if the water bill is in arrears--true?

I would not be surprised:
