Warping light, sound, and time?Submitted by Jeff Buster on March 8, 2010 - 9:32pm.
Why do small differentials in air temperature warp visible light? Index of refraction. An earlier post on Realneo wondered whether an invisibility cloak could be made from wire - the air temperature differential around the wires on the corn crib causes a visual moire effect. ( categories: )
Digital ProwessSubmitted by Jeff Buster on March 7, 2010 - 10:08pm.
No cell phone app will put buttons back on your shirt, or darn your socks. Have you ever created a shirt from a McCalls pattern? Have you sewn with a treadle machine and finished the details with needle and thread? It used to be that thimbles were an indispensible tool in every household - necessary for digital protection. The Old Light Bulb Joke ...Submitted by Jeff Buster on March 3, 2010 - 6:09pm.
Did you hear the joke about how many (insert your favorite-to-ridicule ethnicity here) it takes to change a light bulb? In this case two City workers, and two to turn the truck! Just kidding, this is an unfair use of the image.

Why ignorance prevails in our “democracy”.Submitted by Jeff Buster on January 16, 2010 - 11:13pm.
![]() These T12 fluorescent light bulbs went obsolete a decade and a half ago.
But not in Ohio. Because Ohio has the right to be an ignorant state. Ohio has its own citizens who elect their own legislators. Ohio citizens have the right to be ignorant. And democracy will guarantee that the ignorant citizens of Ohio will retain their prerogative to remain backward. ( categories: )

The Passerby I Haven’t Seen RecentlySubmitted by Jeff Buster on January 11, 2010 - 11:26am.
We all have memories of people we pass by regularly on our daily travels. In front of our house, on the bus, at work.
These people are part of our personal landscape. Though seen regularly, we often may never actually converse with them.
There was an older man who walked past my house on his way to the grocery store. His back was so bent that even with his brace he was facing straight down to the pavement. ( categories: )
