Cuyahoga Juvenile Court Judge Alison Floyd : is she melting down?

Submitted by dwebb on March 19, 2010 - 12:17pm.

Cuyahoga Juvenile Court Judge Alison Floyd  had ordered several teen rape survivors to take polygraphs.  Disregarding the rape shield laws, the polygraph admissibility laws, and the sheer struggle for women, young or adult, to enter the court system to even help with bringing rape charges, this Judge has ordered that the victims take these tests, even though a couple were not on her court docket. Maybe this judge would benefit from an examination for fitness for duty.

Story below.

Frank Giglio Cleveland Peeling back the layers # 1

Submitted by dwebb on March 8, 2010 - 3:51pm.

This saga of Frank Giglio has been one of the more interesting concerns that I have worked on recently. There is such a layer of legend, rumor, and downright deceit that one's head could spin.

Frank Giglio - Cleveland, more special treatment

Submitted by dwebb on March 6, 2010 - 3:22pm.

Frank Giglio has made regular payments on the larger of two parcels, under a plan hammered out by Giglio and the Cuyahoga County Auditor staff. This staff reassured him that the other parcel had so little tax due that foreclosure was not on the radar. Then the auditor and the office of Bill Mason started a foreclosure proceeding on the $184, and refused to stop it even though those taxes were paid in full. The date of that is hearing is 3/26/10.

At summit, Republicans prove they aren't putting America's health first

Submitted by dwebb on February 25, 2010 - 11:02pm.

The summit today on health care, called by Obama, was illuminating. There are videos posted on the net, hours long debates, with the conservative Republicans showing their true colors. This story, by Steve Pearlstein, of the Washington Post, sums up the summit.

"I'm not sure what else was accomplished at Thursday's Blair House summit, but surely one result is that we learned what Republican "leaders" really think about health care and health insurance.

And so it goes; the trickle up of the county corruption investigation

Submitted by dwebb on February 24, 2010 - 10:05pm.

The latest story in the Plain Dealer is one more nail in the Dimora coffin as a small time operator cuts a deal. The feds seem to be building an ironclad case, getting the small fish to plea bargain, and will reel in the public official number one at some point.

Justice: No misconduct in Bush interrogation memos

Submitted by dwebb on February 22, 2010 - 12:37am.

Two years ago, we had to listen in  horror as people debated how far to go in the torture of prisoners. George W Bush thought the sky was the limit.

In this report investigating  the memo of authorizing torture, Bush terror advisor speaks to this. An exceerpt from the story: 'The investigators found that Berkeley law professor John Yoo committed "intentional professional misconduct" when he advised the president that such techniques, which many consider torture, were legal."

Study: Charter Schools Increasing Racial Segregation in Classroom

Submitted by dwebb on February 13, 2010 - 8:46pm.

Here is some more food for thought. It is important to not focus only on this issue (charter schools) that Sanders is pushing Cleveland towards, but the whole plan, the unfunded plan. The plan that hopes for a piece of the stimulus funding pie; the plan that Sanders says will need an additional levy to carry out, and the state money is drying up. Neighborhoods are being left without schools, and Sanders plan for transportation is to "work" with RTA. How far are we going to let him run with this plan?

What fuels the grass-roots rage

Submitted by dwebb on February 11, 2010 - 11:16pm.

"In an astonishingly offensive speech, cheered by the Tea Party crowd, Tancredo declared that "people who could not even spell the word 'vote' or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House. His name is Barack Hussein Obama."

Even worse, if that's possible, Tancredo harkened back to the Jim Crow South that denied the right to vote to African Americans on the basis of "literacy tests" that called for potential black registrants to answer questions that would have stumped PhDs. in political science.

New Mass Senator Elect Brown: waterboarding is ok

Submitted by dwebb on January 20, 2010 - 10:49pm.

During the long 8 years that George W. Bush held reign over the country, people actually debated how much torture was allowed, and what kind of torture was acceptable. The public came to know what water boarding meant. The people of Massachusetts last night voted into office a person who will fight Obama's intent to close down Guantanamo Bay prison, throws away the keys to those accused of terrorism, and thinks that water boarding is not torture. This is what may have got the guy elected, not health care reform. No steps forward, many steps backward.

Democrats: Stop screaming and pass health reform

Progressives listen up! E.J.’s analysis on the structural deficiency of the inner workings of the Senate on its own dictate the passage of this bill. It is for this reason we must educate our neighbors and acquaintances to empower them make pragmatic choices predicated on their best interest.
