Lorain's got art

Submitted by rnojonson on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 08:05.

It's been a while since I have shared my two cents, almost a year. It has flown by. Been busy though still not working a job. In house home health care of mom-n-law is full time occupation, for now. I did manage to join the new Lorain Arts Council. So in my free time I have been there.

The Lorain Arts Council has been in cahoots with the City of Lorain to stir up people traffic in the downtown area. Lorain does have some big yearly events but has need for smaller venues. We have secured a building and have a gallery. The gallery is called "LAC Gallery 737 and Art Center.

we need to remember what we saw.

Gee, I will be 59 this year. Thinking back to the teen days, probably the end of the hippie era and Nam, I think a big part of that generation was ignored. My first year in college was spent discovering all the things of the hippie culture besides the farse of free love. All those alternative life style folks, communal farms, geodesic domes, native cultures and habitats, and solar, integrated bio-shelters and organic farming and hemp as a sustainable crop. So many things were preemptively tested in real time, legal or no. It is kind of ironic that this stuff is being reconsidered today.

Well why not do it here?

One of my pet peeves about solar research is location. Seems solar researchers like the warm climates of the west coast. As a result, they don't have to roll up their sleeves, in fact their sleeves if they have them are too short to roll up. Yes, they bask in the abundant sun source and conduct their research. Oh we improved our sun utilization from 10% to 10.00937%, this is signif.....!!

play job lotto, could be maddening fun or just make you mad!

Submitted by rnojonson on Tue, 02/16/2010 - 12:18.

Play the job lotto, it's easy. Post your resume on the net, apply for every job where the shoe fits and wait for your number to be called. Some employers will post all sorts of contact info and yet say "no phone calls please". Some are required to collect so many applicants to be a sample pool, but the boss's nephew is singled out already. The fresh faced youth's first job is so important for his success. What, he has few job specific skills, no training, no experience, but he is a crony.

I didn't know I needed to know all that!

Submitted by rnojonson on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 15:11.

I am a IT person, that is, I've been trained in that direction. Yes, Information Technology the wave of the future and the backbone of business. As of late there are no wavy backbones!

You go to school to get the geist of the IT world but when it comes time to get a job, you are unequipped to work. Firstly HR people only read the job descriptions, if you don't fit you're out. Then companies don't want to train you if you are short on experience. Let's examine this a little closer.

Open to open source software

Submitted by rnojonson on Mon, 10/12/2009 - 12:54.

Here are some places where you too can check out the wonderful world of Open Source software. This stuff runs on MS PC's, some on Mac's and most on Linux. Weither you use it on a corporate network, a small business setup, classroom or personal use, you can't go wrong, but you can be mis-informed. And I might add, if you tried this stuff out in the past, Open Source software is being upgraded and updated and improved everyday.

Energy, the primise and the promise

Submitted by rnojonson on Mon, 09/28/2009 - 12:41.

To turn the Titanic with an oar is the best way to describe making the existing Grid energy system green. Ones leaving the ship before the port is reached are regarded as mutinous rather than taking a smaller ship.

What I see from the Linuxville front porch.

Linuxville is a virtual place among Linux users here in NEO and I am a guide (haven't reached guru status!) Get your Linux Live-CD off the net, introduce yourself to and explore the sights and sounds and wonders. When you shut down, Linux is removed without changing your PC, you however are changed for ever. Whither you like it or no, you are changed forever. You might even install it next to MS Windows or instead of MS Windows.

pinwheels or vertical wind mills?

Submitted by rnojonson on Fri, 10/10/2008 - 23:33.

Sometimes I see wind mills like trees between here and Sandusky or a stretch of Lake Erie. Giant pinwheels have the Holland air about them no matter now modern design disguises them. Was reading Popular Science, they had a picture of a huge vertical wind turbine...............

What I am looking at........

Submitted by rnojonson on Tue, 09/30/2008 - 22:08.

Hello one and all,

What a find in northeast Ohio, a web site about change needed today and tomorrow. I live in Lorain Ohio a city hard hit by industry closings. It is now all about the flow of money, keeping bang for the buck and managing to build something sustainable.
