A free application

The app, downloadable for free at the iTunes App Store, is accessible for the iPad, iPhone and iPod. It was developed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Disney/ABC Television Group's Digital Media Team to be an interactive companion to the Oscar viewing experience.

Before Oscar night

There will be movie trailers and videos accessible before Sunday, Feb. 26 when the Oscars will be shown. This includes Rachel Smith hosted “On the Red Carpet,” manufactured by KABC and all about Oscar fashions. This is the Oscar buzz which is found in the app.

Watching during the awards

Watching the Academy Awards show has never been as extensive. There are over a dozen video streams from backstage and on the red carpet.

By using its DIRECT mode, the application allows you to select any of six camera angles of the action and zoom in as close as you want.

Before the envelope is opened, you can try to predict winners with the “My Picks” game. Compete with friends on Facebook, and the application will keep score as the announcements are made.

Using it when the show is over

There will be a live video stream following the stars at the Governor’s Ball, or the A-list after party, after the Oscars night is over. The app will let you watch this streaming video and commemorate with the stars.
