They refused me access to videotape this!

I asked the facilitator for permission to video tape this meeting for the citizens and she refused. I have everyone she works for trying to come up with a good reason why now... I'd live to hear a transcript...

Who was air Pollution meeting facilitator?

Hey Norm, what is the name of the facilitator who refused your request to record the meeting?

The meeting was conducted in a public (sewer building) venue, public officials were in attendance - but the meeting (apparently) was not attended by a quorum of members from any one public body,,,so the meeting is possibly exempt from the open meeting laws.

If the meeting is a private meeting, merely masquerading as a public meeting, then the private entity which conducted the meeting is using the public venue (sewer facility) as hypocritical cover - and they should pay rent for the use of the public facility.

This is what the Cleveland Foundation is best at: using their tax exempt funds to steer public opinion on issues of financial interest to their corporate and special interest donors.   They steer public opinion by socially engaging, and then co-opting - the nice public officials and other environmental issue  community "leaders". The Cleveland Foundation used this strategy very effectively with their funding/endorsement of the Wind-On-The-Lake (about 3 miles off Cleveland) clean energy delay tactical meetings over the last half decade.

The big (coal mainly) polluters and their alley Foundations realize the wisdom of the adage: “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer”.

I received this email and suggestion from Mattie Reitman at the Sierra Club... note the original distribution list, now public:

This is the event I mentioned when we were on Coventry, Wednesday from 5-7 with a bunch of enviro people.  There is a slot from 6:30-6:45 to talk about Sierra's Beyond Coal campaign, though I was really just planning to talk about MCCo.

It's a great opportunity to talk to friends and potential allies, and to at least neutralize those more towards the middle of the aisle.  There are a lot of air pollution and monitoring folks involved, including your friends at NOACA, and so that presents an informational and networking opportunity as well.  That said, it doesn't seem worth the 5 hour round trip for me.  Would you like to speak in my place?  I'd have to at least mention it to Pam, the coordinator, but I think you could just speak as an individual and a resident, and not have to represent the Sierra Club or anything.

Ms. Davis,

Mattie Reitman of the Sierra Club forwarded me information on the
Greater Cleveland Clean Air Campaign meeting tonight and I would like
to attend as a citizen with other citizens to videotape the
proceedings for the internet.

Thank you

Dear Mr. Roulet,

Thank you for your interest in the activities of the Greater Cleveland Clean Air Campaign.  The Campaign is a collaboration of local citizens, businesses, non-profit and public orgranizations.  As we discussed, the Working Group will be reconvening tonight and will be focused on information sharing and discussing the attached draft framework that outlines the potential near-term focus for the group.

As the attached agenda illustrates, we have a full agenda and we respectively request that all attendees follow the agenda as well as the direction of the facilitator.

Mattie,

I spoke with Ms. Davis and we are not authorized to video tape.

I have asked her to document the positions of this group in writing
and have her funder (she is a paid facilitator for Environmental
Health Watch) Stu Greenberg call me about the mission of this
collective of industry and government. It is funded entirely by the
Cleveland and Gund Foundations, which are assemblages of industry
funds and interests, and proceedings are not open to the public - I do
not want this presented as a public interest initiative.

I am waiting for correspondence from Ms. Davis and calls from Stu
Greenberg and Senator Brown's office regarding this matter - if the
Sierra Club is to speak it should be with the understanding that is to
a coal industry special interest group.

I'll forward resulting outcomes,

Norm
