The first day...

The first session of the Drupal Conference section was loosely organized. This may sound like a knock on it but it was a really organic way to learn from the speakers (such as the founder and chief maintainer of Drupal - Dries Buytaert and the founder of CivicSpace - Aaron Rosen)...and each other. It lent itself to the ethos of Drupal. This is what community is all about.

One of the major topics (and the focus of Dries' time) was building the Drupal ecosystem. This can be done in two ways:

  1. Encouraging development by individuals comfortable with the underlying technologies (LAMP, CSS, HTML)
  2. Providing an improved ramp of entry to the Drupal community for users (e.g. documentation, ease of use and solidification of existing features, creation of innovative and useful new features)

It was great to meet people who I have worked with such as the gentlemen from Bryght and people I hope to work with. I also got to meet people using Drupal in new environments and in new ways. I think that we get lots done online and that will only be amplified by our proximitiy over the next few days.
