Declining levels of education: The demographic wave

A recent report by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education warns that if current trends continue, the proportion of workers with high school diplomas and college degrees will decrease and the personal income of Americans will decline over the next 15 years.

A drop in the average level of education will depress personal income levels for Americans, in turn creating a corresponding decrease in the nation’s tax base. Read more. Download the report.

Ed, interesting juxtaposition of blog posts. Your other post suggests the key to city ED is attracting knowledge workers, while this one seems to suggest that we(the U.S.) is having problems producing those workers.

So true. We are not focused on the right challenges and opportunities. We need to develop innovations in learning...new ways to engage people, like the Intergenerational School. This report warns us that if we sit here and follow the same path of "school reform", our incomes will likely decline. We need to extend our thinking and actions to stimulate more innovation.
