David Gamble update
And I am grateful that despite discontent in our CLE neighborhoods, Tremont does rise to the occasion to help out this friend to all. David has been outspoken leader and civic activist as well as a cycle commuter.
Just before this accident, we actually saw each other in passing, both with our bikes on the train, at the Redline station in University Circle. David was hit by a drunk* driver. So, as cautious as you can be on your bike, we all still contend with the unknown. I am going to repost this at Bike Cleveland. Thanks Guy.

*2/22 Update: the driver refused sobriety test, but fortunately did stop and call 911-otherwise, David would have died. His injuries are significant and he is recovering at the Metrohealth Deaconess Spinal Clinic. He can slightly move one arm and one leg and some of his extremties and has been taken off the respirator, so he can breathe on his own. It will be a very long journey. He needs prayers and the love of friends -who turned out last night. Christopher Alvarado and Tim Jenkins organized with others. They were amazing. Chris' computer skills allowed everyone to visit with David via skype. The bike community stepped up by donating most of the raffle items --thanks to Joy Machines and Cleveland Bikes and Sokolowskis for the delicious food and warm venue.
PLEASE continue to send cards and well wishes:
On the evening of Friday, November 9th, Dave was cycling to work when he was struck from behind by a driver while crossing the Lorain Carnegie Bridge. For the last three months, he has been in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, and he has a long journey still ahead of him before he can return home.
Dave has been a longtime dedicated activist in Tremont and has fought for his neighbors. Let's return the caring that he has shown us. Your ticket to Dave's benefit at Sokolowski's includes food and entertainment, and there will be a cash bar. Further donations are more than welcome-- they are needed to help Dave restore his health.
If you cannot attend, donations can be left at the Fifth Third Bank on Professor Ave. in Tremont to be deposited in the account "Gary Gamble fbo David Gamble". You may mail checks to:
