Leo Lionni--the GREAT

The kids read Swimmy this week--and in my preparation--I read that the great author and illustrator felt so fortunate to grow up in Amsterdam where he had access to Rembrandts and great art to console him on dark and dreary days.

So, I went in search of art and was so grateful to find the student show at the Cleveland Institute of Art

Please make an effort to get out and warm your winter days with ART that challenges us to SEE and THINK.

CIA Favorites

I have posted some of my favorite images from the show--but will go back for more.  The names that pop out on a first visit: Connor Brindza, Hannah Haserodt, Mariel McGuiness, Mark Burns, Hien Nguyen, Sophie Schwartz, Akeem Pennicooke.

I picked up CIA's Link magazine and was impressed to see that CIA graduate Marc Brown was in town.  Illustrators, like Leo Lionni, Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Ezra Jack Keats, Don Freeman and so many other great illustrators of picture books have a dramatic impact on the lives of students everywhere.

The GREAT Ohio Author and Illustrator Denise Fleming is coming to the Morgan Paper Conservancy on January 29th.  Don't miss this opportunity to make art come alive for kids and adults!

Marc Brown is my kids' favorite CIA grad for sure

Marc Brown is my kids' favorite CIA grad for sure - and Arthur is a good influence.

Sounds like Brown is a good influence too - nice development.

Thanks for posting about the CIA student show - always some of the best art in the world

Disrupt IT

Denise Fleming

Thanks Norm--I hope that you, Evelyn and the kids make it out to the Morgan Paper Conservancy to see Denise Fleming's art of the book process.

She's a dynamic presenter--funny and entertaining.  I saw her last year at an educators event at the Cleveland Art Museum. And, if folks haven't been to the Morgan, yet--GO!

The art and appreciation of book making is enjoying a worldwide renaissance and Cleveland is poised to capitalize on this renewed energy, because the Morgan is such an amazing place :)
