Designer's Felt Creations Are Hot!Submitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Tue, 11/08/2005 - 14:28.
It is rare to find anything new and innovative in fashion these days. It seems like every season is just another revival of the 60s, 70s, 80s, or some other past decade. The same things are re-presented without ever being reinvented. Horst, a nationally known local fashion designer is an exception to this trend. His cutting edge handcrafted felted clothing is unlike anything you will find in the chain stores at the mall. He currently creates tunics, dresses, skirts, coats, jackets, vests, scarves and shawls for women. He exhibits his work at boutiques like Anne van H. Boutique in the Little Italy. Anne van Hauwaert (fashion designer and owner of the boutique) hosted a trunk show of Horst Couture Friday and Saturday November 4th and 5th. Horst and his wife, who is also his muse and model, were both there and had a great selection on hand for the event. The variety of styles and colors available was nearly overwhelming. His works are so much fun to wear and try on because they are like nothing else you have in your wardrobe. Horst’s designs are perfect for the cold gray NEO winter weather. Made of Falkland wool, his tunics and jackets are as warm as an Aryan Island sweater, but instead of being bulky, they are sexy! The felt molds to the shape of the body. Its irregular, soft, dense texture begs to be touched. Horst dyes his own works and his palette includes the most vibrant and shocking brights and the richest earth tones. Color has a great effect on the look and feel of each piece. Some of the earth tones look mossy, grays and browns suggest fur, and some of the jewel tones are like the precious garments Native Americans made from thousands of songbird feathers. Wearing Horst Couture will definitely get you noticed whether you are attending opening night at the Cleveland Opera or shopping for groceries. With Horst’s variety of colors he has something to offer almost every woman. A promotional photo shows models of different ages and races looking confident and regal in his wearable art. Horst’s designs are featured in galleries and museums throughout the United States. He is a young designer, just recently receiving some much-deserved attention. The works he sells in galleries are very reasonably priced and he makes custom pieces. Like images from dreams, Horst Couture evokes many vague exotic and romantic associations, yet the pieces are timeless and will never go out of style. Now is a great opportunity for NEO women to acquire something that will get you admired even in Paris!
