Writing off debt

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 16:42.

How is it that the NEORSD or any public entity can "write off" bad debt?

Saints and Sinners -Tony Viola and the PD

Mortgage Fraud--two of the largest players were indicted yesterday and the story was relegated to a back page and players get a slap on the wrist:

"The magnitude of this crime is hard to fathom," Mason said. "A total of 453 homes, 358 of which fell into disclosure, were part of a master scheme to bilk the banking and real estate industries out of funds."

Logan's Run

Submitted by lmcshane on Thu, 12/15/2011 - 23:33.

Growing up, of movies that stuck in my conscience, besides Planet of the Apes and Omega Man, Logan's Run stood out.  Lately, I am revisiting the message of that sci-fi movie as I see worthy and intelligent "senior" members of our community...discarded by the workforce.

Why do we insist on decommissioning the most experienced and valuable members of our society?

U.S. Chamber lies about Brown's record

Submitted by Lee Batdorff on Fri, 12/09/2011 - 21:57.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has used lies to attack the record of Sherrod Brown according to a recent edition of the Plain Dealer's Politifacts.

Sherrod must be good at what he does by the way he draws vicious attacks centered around lies from the right. These are especially from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown's nemesis de jour, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, current Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel.

Owner of new Tremont beauty shop gives Oldroser a gorgeous rose

Submitted by Oldroser on Mon, 10/24/2011 - 03:10.

A new beauty shop has opened in Tremont, at W. 10th & Literary. I was walking my dogs along the Literary side of its building where there is a large yard with three gorgeous red rose bushes bearing buds. I was trying to decide which was the most beautiful when the owner, Kelly, came out and asked if I would like a rose.

Well, yes! And so Oldroser, who has given away over forty rose bouquets this year, was herself given a fantastically beautiful rose.

We all wear masks in our daily life.  The recent dust-up about the Guy Falkes masks are illustrative of a problem in NEO that needs dialogue.

Expansion of LJ Minor

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 07/31/2011 - 16:33.

LJ Minor is a division of Nestle.  It's a significant employer and provides a tax base in Cleveland.  LJ Minor is on  the West 25th/Pearl Corridor slated for significant investment.   LJ Minor has announced their intention to expand in two phases.  This is a good thing, but it might also undermine the residents in this area as the company has already contacted several property owners about the acquisition of their property.  REALNEO will keep an eye on this developing

Who will "apply breaks" during U.S. default

Submitted by Lee Batdorff on Sat, 07/23/2011 - 22:05.

Folks, this might be a very special week, starting Monday July 25th, 2011.

Many say that we, as a civilization, are looking into the depths of a coming deep depression brought on by an actual default of the U.S. Federal government.  Even just the simple continuing disagreement between the right-controlled U.S. House and the ever-so-centering President Obama about what to do into the next week could prompt a falling investment bond rating.

From what I've been reading, a falling bond rating for the U.S. is a falling financial rating for every borrower in the U.S.

Dates of upcoming O.D.O.T. Question & Answer meetings

Submitted by Oldroser on Tue, 07/19/2011 - 02:57.

Since I had only one day notice of the meeting, I complained and found that other people had had earlier notices and Sammy Catania had provided Henry Senyak with a list of dates. I suggested they be put in the newsletter. Well, the date it has to go to the printer doesn't allow for that. Well, print the whole list! Fortunately, the helpful Public Information Officer sent me the list, and here it is! I hope in the future to not be the only one raising questions/from the board.

A Great Lakes "Thanks" to the Plain Dealer!

Submitted by Lee Batdorff on Sat, 07/16/2011 - 19:16.

Dear editors of the Plain Dealer:

Thank you for the continuing focus the Plain Dealer has been giving to the
controversial, and potentially very damaging to all of the Great Lakes region,
piece of legislation that passed both the Ohio House and Senate—and especially
for your “11th hour” editorial leading Ohio governor John Kasich, and all readers,
back to his utterance of support for the Great Lakes last year on the campaign trail.

My bouquets are legendary…but trumped by Becker’s donuts

Submitted by Oldroser on Thu, 07/07/2011 - 00:43.

I’ve so far given away over 30 bouquets of roses, starting with old garden rose bouquets to TWDC’s Chris Garland, ODOT’s Craig Hebegrand and to Director Ron Brown of Cleveland Planning in gratitude for his help. At the recent ODOT update and Q&A at Sokolowski’s, Safety Director Marty Flask sat beside me and said he’d heard about the bouquet for Director Brown, it was mentioned at a meeting, adding that City Hall is a small place.
