Some of you may have missed the Plain Dealer's glowing review of fake-environmentalist Rich Cochran at the Western Reserve Land Conservancy (also home to REALNEO's favorite Cuyahoga County crook)--

Please help hold city officials accountable and stop disinvestment of services in Brooklyn Centre:

There is gross misuse of federal funds.  City of Cleveland provides incentives to corporate interests and developers but does not help communities retain services and allows use of federal monies to destroy historical fabric of a neighborhood.

Senate Campaign -you do have a choice Scott Rupert

Submitted by lmcshane on Sat, 09/22/2012 - 11:37.

I am feeling fairly depressed over my options in this coming election. The Senate campaign choices did not impress me until I saw that that I do have choice now:

The Contradictions of Fair Hope highlights a long-forgotten and fascinating aspect of American history when newly freed slaves responded to the shock of Emancipation by forming “self-help” organizations called benevolent societies to help ease the transition from slavery to freedom.

CLE+ Condemnation=Demos for Developers

Submitted by lmcshane on Wed, 07/04/2012 - 05:21.

At a dinner conversation the other day, I was told by a person who works with area businesses that the City of Cleveland can condemn a property --regardless of the building condition-- if the water bill is in arrears--true?

I would not be surprised:

CMSD--the sad truth (and no one is paying attention)

I wish I wrote this comment to the PD's soft peddle "in support of teachers" (gee gosh, GCP just figured out they NEED the teachers to push support for a levy...):

Within this article there are two messages. The first, of course, is another call by the Plain Dealer to pass a school levy.

Chardon media event and “all those questions”

Submitted by Lee Batdorff on Sat, 03/03/2012 - 17:54.

The tragic shootings at Chardon High School on Monday Febuary 27th instantly became a media event. Sometimes media events have a way of showing up media as less than thorough.

Not one more dime...

Cleveland City Council folks are being evasive--they know that the shady contractor Peter Tien has asked the Mayor and Council's approval for some up front money.  Fortunately, Ohio Citizen Action (and to his credit, Councilman Brian Cummins) are on top of the shell game:

Writing off debt

Mortgage Fraud--two of the largest players were indicted yesterday and the story was relegated to a back page and players get a slap on the wrist:

"The magnitude of this crime is hard to fathom," Mason said. "A total of 453 homes, 358 of which fell into disclosure, were part of a master scheme to bilk the banking and real estate industries out of funds."

Logan's Run

Submitted by lmcshane on Thu, 12/15/2011 - 22:33.

Growing up, of movies that stuck in my conscience, besides Planet of the Apes and Omega Man, Logan's Run stood out.  Lately, I am revisiting the message of that sci-fi movie as I see worthy and intelligent "senior" members of our community...discarded by the workforce.

Why do we insist on decommissioning the most experienced and valuable members of our society?

U.S. Chamber lies about Brown's record

Submitted by Lee Batdorff on Fri, 12/09/2011 - 20:57.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has used lies to attack the record of Sherrod Brown according to a recent edition of the Plain Dealer's Politifacts.

Sherrod must be good at what he does by the way he draws vicious attacks centered around lies from the right. These are especially from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown's nemesis de jour, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, current Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel.
