Only a few more weeks until spring planting! I have been working on a planting list over the last few days. The following is what I plan to grow on my urban farm this year. I have grown nearly everything on the list before, but most will be new to my farm in East Cleveland. As you can see from the list, some of the plants will probably not produce this year or they will mature in the coming years, but this is my investment in my home and my city.
As art and science move a step closer, becoming as one, there is at least one online digital arts journal that attempts to capture it all, Art Digital Magazine!

I prefer to write about the arts, but my experience the other night has me inspired to blog about online tax programs.
This year I decided to try Turbo Tax for my Federal and State tax returns -- it was such a waste of time. I ended up starting over and filing with Free Tax USA.

Materials and supplies collected from local architects and interior designers will be distributed to arts educators, art students, and artists at the ZeroLandfill Akron project site in downtown Akron.
Join in this resource harvest every Saturday in February from Noon to 4pm.
Rarely does one find an artist who is as comfortable with a span of media and substrates, ranging from glass to light to ceramic to electronic ink and virtual illustrations.

Friday the 13th may bring bad luck but The Gallery at Gray's is bringing great art to Cleveland tonight with the opening of a new show Aftermath: Works by Chris Zahner.
The Gallery at Gray's is located in Gray's Auctioneers, on Cleveland's Westside. It is a great space if you have not seen it -- one especially designed for exhibiting art. Owner/auctioneer Deba Gray is herself an artist.

The Cleveland Public Library welcomes the Year of the Ox with two Lunar New Year celebrations at the Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium, FREE and open to the public, the event will take place at the Main Library, Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium, E. 6th Street and Superior Avenue, on Saturday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m.

I was very saddened to learn today we lost a great artist, loved friend and family to many, and inspirational Clevelander with the passing of Clarence E. Van Duzer. I knew Van Duzer as a family friend and always was inspired and energized by talking with him, his work, and his approach to life. At our last meeting, at his Convivium opening, in 2006, he was so strong and clear it seemed he would live on forever.
Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio offers ARTWORKS, a program where students work with professional artists and other students to create work in music, dance, theater and visual art.
Student applications are due March 20. Professional artists who want to work with the students are encouraged to apply by February 12th. The program takes place June 17-July 30th. Call 216.561.5005 for more information.

I just listed Loren Naji's Portaits of Barack Obama in Gunsmoke on Ebay, each created on inauguration night, January 20, 2009, on the streets of Cleveland. Let's see if there is support for Cleveland artists out there.

The arctic wind chill made for an interesting evening and it seemed an appropriate night to listen to Richard Strauss's "An Alpine Symphony." I don't recall ever seeing the orchestra crowd dressed so casually. Many audience members chose to wear boots, pants and sweaters rather than heals, dresses, suits and ties.
The program of Ligeti, Debussy, Bartok and Richard Strauss was one of the most stimulating I have ever heard the Cleveland Orchestra play. The four pieces were loosely tied together under the theme of the elements, mainly earth, water and air.
