blogsThe 200 Day School Year: Reactions From the Teachers' LoungeSubmitted by MaryBeth Matthews on Sat, 02/07/2009 - 09:20.
Last night I listened to Dick Feagler and his Friends on WVIZ discuss Governor Strickland's education plan for the state of Ohio, slated to be piloted in the Cleveland Municipal Schools. When Mr Feagler asked his panel's opinion of the proposed 200 day school year, all of his highly educated guests nodded in agreement. "Of course it is a GREAT idea!" "Some other countries have school years even longer than 200 days." "Another month of school makes sense. We need to prepare Ohio's children to compete in a global economy." "It's about time.

This is life saving information.... This article was refreshing as it supplies information on applications for Baking Soda that I had not seen before. May provide new info for those in need of treatment. The format is screwy so bear with it but the info seems good. ( categories: )
Praise and Thanks for Lux Interior of the CrampsSubmitted by Kevin Cronin on Fri, 02/06/2009 - 20:55.
How many saw the news (or noticed it at all) that “Lux Interior, frontman of "psychobilly" pioneers the Cramps, died yesterday in Glendale, California” and realized it was another example of Ohio creativity let loose on the world?

IS CLEVELAND READY FOR THE MED MART BUSINESS?Submitted by Roldo on Fri, 02/06/2009 - 20:01.
The Healthcare Convention &Exhibitors Association (HCEA) “is the only organization solely dedicated to “improving the effectiveness and quality of all healthcare conventions and congresses, medical meetings and healthcare exhibit marketing throughout the industry.” Cleveland, of course, is a prime city for health care with the nationally renowned Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and their medical schools. One would think that Cleveland would be big NOW in the field of attracting conventions and exhibitions dealing with healthcare meetings and showings.

Innovative Solar Power Feed-In Tariff Program Approved in Gainesville, Fla.Submitted by Charles Frost on Fri, 02/06/2009 - 18:07.
Innovative Solar Power Feed-In Tariff Program Approved in Gainesville, Fla. A couple of months back I wrote about how Gainesville, Florida was looking into enacting a solar power feed-in tariff modeled on the type of renewable energy promotion schemes used widely in Europe, but sparingly in the United States. Good news, Gainesville Regional Utilities has announced that the Gainesville City Commission has unanimously approved the plan:

"Another step taken toward Breaking the Cycle of Abandonment"... Forward or Backward?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 02/05/2009 - 20:52.
This just in, via Cleveland City Council, via Facebook... "Another step taken toward Breaking the Cycle of Abandonment". This is about how City Council has decided to spend our community's $25 million in Federal taxpayer funds from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) - the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development - intended to help our impoverished inner city. You must ask yourself, who decided how your $25,000,000 should be spent here, how did they really decide this, and is this a step forward or backwards?
MARKETING THE MEDICAL MART WITH HEADLINESSubmitted by Roldo on Thu, 02/05/2009 - 12:18.
The Plain Dealer gave us a billboard of headlines on the Medical Mart on its front page today but little – if anything – new that would indicate whether a medical mart would mean anything to the Cleveland area economy. Other than a drain, that is. Headlines – all with question marks – don’t add to the debate at all. They are simply a gimmick that attracts attention. Why is it that the newspaper cannot inspire a real public debate about the necessity of spending $1 billion dollars for this project? It seems so obvious that that is the question requiring answers.

more inescapable fees?Submitted by Susan Miller on Thu, 02/05/2009 - 10:42.
Here you go: another example of how the government and its agencies don't seem to want to reward good behavior but will instead lump us all together: From Ted Strickland's budget balancing proposal. Fees instead of taxes.
I originally thought to put this in the discussion of NEORSD and its stowmwater program fee increases, but reconsidered. Still, it's all about a little fee increase here and a little fee increase there.

Todays experience was intense with the Cleveland Board of Building and Housing. Pictures really do tell a thousand words... at least. Presented before and after pics... the letters, emails, and petition of support... landed a six month extention. Now one tired me is resting with one tired puppy and kitty to gear up to hit the ground running tomorrow... now is where the fun part starts...
HOW CLEVELAND WAS HELD HOSTAGE BY CEISubmitted by Roldo on Wed, 02/04/2009 - 12:50.
This area’s private electric company had a stranglehold on the city’s public electric system. Muny Light, as the city’s system was known, in the 1970s was an island serving some Cleveland neighborhoods, surrounded by CEI, which served in Cleveland and its suburbs. CEI refused to allow electric power to cross its lines – a common practice called wheeling - to serve the city’s much smaller system. It was tightening its grip. It was hoping its hold would become a death grip.

TIM HAGAN - CUYAHOGA COUNTY CRYBABYSubmitted by Roldo on Wed, 02/04/2009 - 11:13.
Prima donna Tim Hagan cries the Plain Dealer is “cynical.” Tim, the PD has been propping you up for 30 years. You an arrogant, lazy excuse for a leader. You’ve been given the best press a big mouth with little record has ever been given. You don’t know how lucky you have been. With Brent Larkin leaving the Plain Dealer editorial boss position some reporter might start telling the truth about a guy who talks and talks but does little. “They’re cynical about everything we are trying to do here,” Hagan moaned about the news media and PD.
