Invest in Cycling and Walking to Restore NE Ohio Neighborhoods

Submitted by Kevin Cronin on Sun, 01/18/2009 - 15:05.

Northeast Ohio has the opportunity to rebuild our neighborhoods and by offering healthier and more active transportation choices, we can create thriving neighborhoods where people want to live. However, the current transportation network leaves us way behind the curve. New investment to support walking and biking will create pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, an important step to get the nation back on track. Fortunately, it's a cost-effective step we can take in these tight financial times.

dogs in my life and Merle's Door - best dog book so far

Submitted by Susan Miller on Sun, 01/18/2009 - 08:56.

Dogs have always been in my life. As a child, my first dog was one who had been slipped under the fence by our Japanese neighbors on the base where my family lived in Nagoya, Japan. Dozo came back to the states with us on the big ship and was my best buddy, standing between me and the street in our neighborhoods and following me everywhere. He died when I was in first grade (my father always had a way of keeping these details from me so I don't know exactly how he died).

New Biz in Tremont

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Sat, 01/17/2009 - 22:52.

Check out Suki Yume in Tremont.  This is my tenant and she just put the finishing touches on her business... beautiful, new sign... window stickers... address numbers (finally) installed.

Paula is drawn to Asian Ball Joint Dolls (or ABJD) because of their beauty and unique customization.  You can take a blank doll and paint your own face, change the hair, change the eyes... make it your own.

Tremonts artistic base makes this shop a perfect fit.

Poe at 200 -- Eerie After All These Years

By JOHN J. MILLER

Edgar Allan Poe

On a snowy night toward the end of his life, Edgar Allan Poe delivered a lecture on the origins of the universe. It was an unusual topic -- Poe was always more interested in death than birth -- and the reviews were mixed.

PLAIN DEALER LEADS FRADULENT MED MART PUSH

Submitted by Roldo on Fri, 01/16/2009 - 12:38.

Don’t you just love the dance the establishment, its puppet politicians and its subservient media are doing with the medical mart.

“This community needs to move ahead on the medical mart, and that means pushing for a decision on where to build it,” headlined a Plain Dealer editorial, “Decision time.”

Well, editorial writers, no one is building a medical mart.

VOINOVICH - FREE & EASY WITH PUBLIC MONEY

Submitted by Roldo on Wed, 01/14/2009 - 13:01.

George Voinovich was a very selective conservative. That made him also a very selective “moderate” Republican.

My experience with Voinovich tells me he used his ethnic background to represent wealth in the community and in the nation. He successfully portrayed himself as personally frugal and the image carried him a long way.

I once told an audience that Voinovich would never be Governor because people saw him as a Mayor, nothing more. I was obviously very wrong.

Hawk, this photo of the inside of the Beehive School I went back and took for you.   And in looking down the frozen hallway with the decaying paint and the broken windows against the west, my thoughts flashed to the many other interiors I'd seen like this in Cleveland.

Resale Issues in a poor economy

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 19:23.

I just viewed a clip this evening and hit Google to find out more...

Congress recently passed a law to protect children under the age of 12 against lead poisoning.  The law was meant to protect against toys poisoned with lead, or lead based paint.  The law is actually very broadly written and also covers clothing... all clothing...

There is also very little guidance about the new law... basically... resale shops have to test every article to prevent against lead content... how will that work if testing costs more than the sale price of the garment?
