Workforce DevelopmentLONG ROAD TO THE SCRAP MARKET IN CLEVELAND, 0HIOSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 12/23/2007 - 13:28.
I stopped and spoke with these two fellows to check on the current prices paid for scrap steel- a nickel a pound or $100.00 per ton. They were happy to converse, but weren't keen on being photographed up close. Each of their shopping baskets had, I would estimate, between 100lbs and 200lbs of rusty cast iron and steel - a 1 inch diameter steel rod about 3 feet long, a piece of angle iron, what looked like a plate that goes under the rail road rail and through which the RR spikes are hammered, etc. These fellows had been gleaning the fields around the TriC area and were headed on Saturday to the scrap yard at E55th and 490.

ClevelandTHE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREE STAMP - CLEVELAND, OHIOSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 12/20/2007 - 21:41.
10.18.11 Occupy Cleveland needs a permit for Willard Park and for Public Square. Downtown Cleveland Alliance needs access for Xmas decor. Right. Christmas in Cleveland will be hard for many. But some have shelter, colored with red, white, and green. The FREE STAMP is a negative, as is much of Cleveland.
DANA PATERSON IS NEON - SUNDAY OPENHOUSE!Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 12/20/2007 - 20:51.
I know a friend in NY who has always admired neon, so, at Norm Roulet's suggestion, I visited the Dragon's Heir Neon Art Shop at 5900 Detroit Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. Spend that Solstice present money on local ART!
ROLDO BARTIMOLE ON BREWED FRESH DAILY - POSITIVELY CLEVELAND + PLUSSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 12/13/2007 - 15:06.
BREWED FRESH DAILY HAS A THREAD which carries a discussion which I believe it is important for everyone in NEO to read. The thread is especially important now that the City of Cleveland is looking desperately for immediate cash-back from the taxpayers’ UDAG loans.

Renowned architect Carl Stein explains "rampant environmental recklessness" of plans for BreuerSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 12/03/2007 - 08:31.
November 28, 2007, renowned architect Carl Stein, FAIA, Principal of elemental architecture, llc, of New York City, shared his valuable understanding about the environment in Northeast Ohio and the world, focusing on the energy of buildings and a specific analysis of the Breuer Cleveland Trust Tower, in downtown Cleveland. This is the only high-rise by revolutionary architect Marcel Breuer, and it is globally appreciated as a masterpiece of modern design and construction... yet it is planned for demolition by Cuyahoga County Commissioners Dimora and Hagan. Stein worked with Breuer for many years, including when Breuer built the Cleveland Trust Tower, and Stein's conclusion is there is no rational excuse for demolishing the Breuer. As Stein states, "just that Breuer and this building are so important is enough reason to preserve the Breuer"... although Stein gives many other reasons!
FACELESS TRAVELERS AND THE US BORDER PATROLSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 11/21/2007 - 17:17.
The mood in the United States is changing towards people who don’t look like they are from here. For years I have traveled around the US and around the world and, besides being inspected and asked to produce my passport at the physical border crossing between nations, I have only been stopped inside a county once - in the 70’s – by soldados in Patagonia when Argentina was governed by the military right before Peron returned to power.
CLEVELAND WIND PLANS - WAY DOWN THE ROAD (and not this road)Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 11/14/2007 - 21:32.
Euclid Corridor Taking Shape, of ConcreteSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 23:44.
Driving back and forth between Ohio City and East Cleveland, I often take Euclid... partly to watch the progress of the "Silver Line" and Clinic Complex development. I increasingly find the "Silver Line" and Mid-Town aspects of all this disappointing, but I am fascinated by what I see coming together with the Cleveland Clinic.
HARD TIME IN THE RACKSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 10:35.
Tower City and the Downtown Alliance Corporations around Public Square are moving the Cleveland bedroom up Superior. Downtown Cleveland is saying "NO" loud and clear.
MORE GLIB LIES FROM PORT AUTHORITY - SO VOTE NO ON ISSUE 14Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 11/04/2007 - 14:51.
The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority continues to obfuscate and intentionally misrepresent the facts in its attempt to finance itself from our county taxes.

Envisioning and Executing a Holistic East Cleveland TransformationSubmitted by Sudhir Kade on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 15:26.
Years have past since our REALNEO team first presented a vision for a holistic and sustainable East Cleveland transformation at a town hall meeting held by former Mayor Saratha Goggins. Since then, our team has pushed forward with a diverse group of advocates for positive change and today we are poised to introduce many of the concepts we originally envisioned as part of the Star development project.

Right next to Battery Park is the old Detroit neighborhood where there are numerous vacant houses.
NEW STREET SIGN – WHAT’S THE MESSAGE? (“anecdote” 2 for J. Murray)Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 10/25/2007 - 14:48.
Last week when I walked by the post in the photo above there was a street sign on the post. Today the sign is gone and the two bolts which had fastened the sign to the post are laying in the grass at the base of the post.

Help Wanted at 1894 Roxbury: appraiser for historic urban homeSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 10/25/2007 - 14:23.
Star Neighborhood Development is rapidly nearing completion of the first phase of historic renovation and greening of "the finest house on Roxbury" - interior above - a wonderfully designed and constructed, classic 3,000+ square-foot 1906 American Tudor home, in a transitional urban historic neighborhood of East Cleveland, a transitional city bordering dynamic University Circle and Cleveland Heights.

VISCERAL BUSINESSES - THE GUTS OF OUR ECONOMYSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 21:20.
So when I walked by Joe, at the door taking a breather, asked..."you from Boston?" Well, I had visited Boston (and I had spaced that the Indians were up against them just then) - so I thought the guy was able to see into the future. Stable on my feet, I walked into the All State Barber College, and l felt that HERE was the healthy, real economic future.
BEGGARS IN CLEVELAND?Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 10/17/2007 - 12:03.
There's a new sidewalk sign in Public Square (and elsewhere downtown). Another sign that our society is dismantling itself into them and us.
