12/17/2004 - 15:00

THIS FRIDAY DECEMBER 17th, from 8pm - 11pm, 1300 Gallery will be
carrying on the tradition of offering the public a chance to get great art on
the cheap. Our annual Holiday show is a chance to give back to the artists that
have exhibited at 1300 throughout the year with the No Commission show. Each
artist will be presenting work which 1300 will take no commission on. What does
this mean? Original artwork that is 30 – 40 percent off typical prices.

Participating artists include: Brian Kelly, Bask, Bob Sek, Ali Calis, Vicky Semarjian, Chako Suzuki, Lesley
Reppeteaux, Nick Zaremba, Laura Brink, Jeff Gilligan, Kiki Maclean, Derek Hess,
Valerie Mayen, Dolan Geiman and Grant Smrekar.

In addition to the exhibition, 1300 will be hosting a Holiday Party featuring
the sounds of misterbradleyp. 1300 will also be holding a raffle for a chance
to win a piece of art from Derek Hess or Bask. Both artists have donated their
work and everyone who buys a ticket will have a chance to win one of the pieces
valued at over $500.

Following the example of Phoenix

Submitted by Ed Morrison on Fri, 12/03/2004 - 04:49.

The chambers of commerce in the Phoenix region are launching a sensible economic development strategy during the holidays. They are urging residents to shop locally. Although it's too late for this year, maybe our NEO chambers could launch a similar marketing effort next year.

TAKE ACTION: Support Transportation Sustainability Champion - Shop #1 Ohio City Cycles for holidays

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 11/22/2004 - 02:59.

At the E4S awards party, transportation sustainability champion Jim Sheehan stressed that Ohio City Cycles has lots of great gift for the holidays - from recycled bikes to cool eco-cycle art objects and other great stuff so after you shop local and organic at Champion Basketeria, at the West Side Market, swing by Ohio City Cycles for all your other holiday shopping... if you see a solar and biofuel powered van parked out front, that's probably the other transportation champion, Matthew Harris - great people!

TAKE ACTION: Support Organic & Local Food Champions... #1 is Basketeria in West Side Market

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 11/21/2004 - 20:26.

Processed and industry-grown food harm body
and Earth, and most supposedly fresh food travels over 1,500 miles to reach us,
at great harm to the environment. Enlightened NEO shoppers seek outlets for eco-friendly
food - ideally organic and locally grown. While our choices are limited, the
Champions below work untiringly to improve our lot. Support them, and help seed
sustainable developments in the food "industry" for a healthier
future for all. You can support the *winner* by shopping at the West Side
Market - their stand is in the short wing of the produce stand, by the flowers
- support all these champions, thank them, and spread the word!
