Vote for Alex Pavloff for USG Arts & Science Representative. He is a human: not a zombie. This is where a photo sure would come in handy. The sign is posted on the Designated Smoker Sign near the Veale Convocation Center and penciled in to the sign in parentheses is the comment (and a smoker). Apropos.

What a waste of potential and so typical of our leadership. Sheryl Harris again proves she is one of the most balanced voices out there.
How well do we fledge our young?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 05/17/2008 - 22:16.
Ten days ago I noticed a robin's next with three new-born chicks, and protective parents, living early Spring to the fullest. Already, the chicks are fledglings, having jumped yesterday from the safety of the nest to thrive or die on the ground, until their wings are strong enough to fly. I watched this fledgling hop and flap around for a while, as mom and dad protested from above. Certainly a critical time in the life of the robin, and I wonder how our three chicks did - are they still alive the next day - are they now part of the chorus of nature making NEO a great theater. Do we humans fledge our children as well, and make the theater of life better or worse for all living?.

No bill from Fred NanceSubmitted by Roldo on Fri, 05/16/2008 - 14:41.
Some people just must have too much money. Fred Nance of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey hasn’t submitted a bill yet to Cuyahoga County for his work on the $900 million deal for a medical mart and convention center. He’s the county’s lawyer on these matters.

O'Malley & the Deal that led to downfallSubmitted by Roldo on Fri, 05/16/2008 - 12:43.
I walked into the City Council hearing room in mid-2001, to find one-time Mayor Michael White’s nemesis Pat O’Malley sitting with a number of suits in a nearly empty room. O’Malley was the County Recorder at the time. Having known O’Malley as a once progressive/aggressive Council member and foe of Mayor Michael White, it made for an amusing sight for me. I asked him pointedly what he was doing sitting there with a team of suits. I suspected nothing good.

First Things FirstSubmitted by metroparks muse on Fri, 05/16/2008 - 06:51.
If Cleveland Metroparks continues to expand into the city of Cleveland, the safety of the good people in these neighborhods must be of paramount concern. This is evident from the horrendous attack this week at West Creek, along with residents' concerns previously voiced in Slavic Village. Vandalism at Washington Park Golf Course has been addressed, but personal safety far outweighs property concerns.

Fighting Dinosaurs? Lead Poisoning and Urban RedevelopmentSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 14:07.
If these are average Clevelanders, living in older urban neighborhoods like around University Circle their entire lives, they have been lead poisoned, perhaps severely. Thursday morning, May 22nd, join 100s of NEOs leaders concerned with our community's health, intelligence, safety and economy meeting at the Cleveland Natural History Museum for a free breakfast, keynote discussion and breakout sessions about lead poisoning and urban redevelopment. I guarantee you will leave this brief event with a completely realigned understanding of the core barriers to the success of our urban neighborhoods, leading to better planning for a healthy, effective region in the future.

This certainly has been a perfect spring for flowering trees, still exploding with color all over the near East Side. Here are some views at Lakeview Cemetery, where the plantings are exceptional any time of year, and especially about now. Check it out!
THE DISADVANTAGED TRIANGLE SOLUTION! MORE ASPHALT!Submitted by Martha Eakin on Wed, 05/14/2008 - 12:14.
Clearly University Circle wheels are squeaking and the PD has agreed to be an unquestioning amplifier. A couple weeks ago there was a spate of articles/editorials and then readers were given a break, but now the pd is back at it…”We got to have it- that Opportunity Corridor- we just gotta." After all, “important people” want it.

Time for Sen. Sherrod Brown to ChooseSubmitted by Roldo on Fri, 05/09/2008 - 08:45.
It’s time to come out from hiding, Sherrod. Sen. Sherrod Brown doesn’t want to make a choice in the Democratic primary race. But it’s time for him to show some courage. Bite the bullet and give us your choice for the Democratic nominee. Some Democrats with backbones need to tell Hillary Clinton that her performance and obstinacy in remaining in the race as a spoiler needs to end. Her pigheadedness now endangers the chance for a Democrat to win the White House and others to win in the Congress.
