Buster Busting down barriers to justice at Justice CenterSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Tue, 11/06/2007 - 23:42.
I can understand why Jeff put up the sunny, happy sunflower header, on such a glum day, as I'm sure we'd all love a lift... but the reason we are feeling glum is not the weather or lack of flowers but the injustices we see all around us. My replacement header is not intended to cheer people up but to cheer on injustice-buster Buster in his pursuit of liberty and freedom to take pictures in public places and justice for all.

QUITTING TIME AT BREUER TOWER, CLEVELAND, OHIOSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 11/05/2007 - 13:12.
Every afternoon at 3:30 the workers removing the asbestos and doing the interior demolition in the Marcel Breuer designed Ameritrust Tower pile briskly out into the little alleyway between the Tower and the Tower's parking garage.
are you wearing cotton?Submitted by Susan Miller on Mon, 11/05/2007 - 07:27.
Shortly after the screening of Black Gold last year at Cleveland Cinematheque, I turned to purchasing only fairly traded coffee from Phoenix Coffee in my neighborhood. There are increasing choices there perhaps driven by the awareness raised by the film. I also found this video called White Gold: the true cost of cotton. Though much of what I wear is found in secondhand stores and I can't remember the last time I purchased something "new", I found it informative and apparently asked to be kept in the loop. So this morning, here's what the loop sent to me: West African organic cotton farmer to visit fashion schools
PAN will visit next month several schools of fashion and textile design across Europe, and inform students about the benefits of organic cotton, and how they can adopt sustainable practices when sourcing raw materials. Barnabas Paul, an organic cotton farmer from Benin, West Africa, will join our panel of experts in the UK and France and explain, in his own words, to the designers of tomorrow how organic cotton has transformed the lives of his family and community. Check out all the dates here.

Envisioning and Executing a Holistic East Cleveland TransformationSubmitted by Sudhir Kade on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 15:26.
Years have past since our REALNEO team first presented a vision for a holistic and sustainable East Cleveland transformation at a town hall meeting held by former Mayor Saratha Goggins. Since then, our team has pushed forward with a diverse group of advocates for positive change and today we are poised to introduce many of the concepts we originally envisioned as part of the Star development project.

The John and Mildred Putnam Sculpture Collection is especially visible in this community, right now, as one day following the reception celebrating the addition of work #45 to University Circle - the stunning "Inner Circle", by David Deming - the collection welcomed to NEO the landmark sculpture "Acrobats", by important regional artist Keith Haring (born in 1958 in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, qualifying him for the collection).

Municipal Geothermal for Independent Green Republic of East ClevelandSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 09:45.
While looking on Green City Blue Lake for a posting on the Breuer, I came across an interesting article by Marc Lefkowitz called "Warm up to district geothermal in Cleveland", which writes "Representatives from Case, UCI, Cleveland Clinic, city of Cleveland, Flats East Bank and Neighborhood Progress, Inc.— which is considering geothermal district power at its St. Luke’s development—met yesterday (October 22, 2007) at the Cleveland Foundation" to discuss "The economics of district-wide geothermal". It seems these groups are exploring large scale geothermal projects to help meet large energy needs, like for University Hospitals.
Many Worlds Collide for David Deming, Inner Circle and Putnam CollectionSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 10/31/2007 - 23:38.
The Friends of Art, CWRU staff and the John and Mildred Putnam Sculpture Collection team of Harvey Buchanan and Evelyn Kiefer picked the perfect time and day to hold a reception celebrating the addition of work #45 to the world-class Putnam Sculpture Collection, at University Circle, as David Deming's "Inner Circle" is a work of art that changes dramatically with light in the environment, and sunset is an especially beautiful time to view this work.

Inner Circle has Multiple Meanings, Around University CircleSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 10/29/2007 - 12:15.
University Circle is a community of overlapping circles of interdependent institutions, boards, patrons and public interests that in some way touch every life in the NEO universe, worldwide (well illustrated by the current Cleveland Orchestra tour of Europe). So thoughts of "Inner Circles" within this star-power constellation bring illusions of grand people and designs. So true, as the latest "Inner Circle" added to University Circle is a very sharp and strong sculpture by Cleveland Institute of Art President David Deming, commissioned by the Putnam Sculpture Collection, of Case Western Reserve University... a great collision of worlds.

IMPROVE YOUR SOIL THIS FALLSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 10/29/2007 - 11:05.
This Fall, rather than raking and blowing those autumn leaves off your lawn and garden why don’t you just mow them into your lawn and leave them in your garden.
